Lombardozzi Assigned To Syracuse
Steve Lombardozzi moves up the ladder
The specious nature of recent player moves prevents the use of the word “promote,” but Steve Lombardozzi has been moved from the AA roster of Harrisburg to the AAA roster of Syracuse.
Lombardozzi, who was recently named the Eastern League batter of the week, had been hitting .309 with a .466 OBP with Harrisburg, with 16 steals in 19 tries. Taking his place on the Senator roster is Chris McConnell, a recent “B” on our GBI for his .175/.250/.257 line put up over 57 games with the Chiefs.
In other roster moves, RHP Garrett Mock was placed on the 7-Day DL for Harrisburg while C Jhonatan Solano was activated for Syracuse.
Sweet, looks like Lombardozzi is on track for a September callup. Look forward to seeing him here in DC. 🙂
The first line in well deserved call ups
So where’s Antonelli been playing – 2B? Does this mean he’ll be moved over to 3B / SS for the Chiefs, and Lombardozzi starts at 2B – can’t believe that he would be brought up only to sit on the bench…..
Hulett’s been playing at both 2B and 3B. He’ll likely be playing 3B only now. Lombo doesn’t have the arm for SS.
Great news, this is what us seamheads live for. I’d be surprised if he gets a callup this year, don’t want cram the 40 man until you have to.
a middle infield hitting 220? next year? dont want to cram? what are you giving up? give the kid a shot! the nats are only a couple potent bats away from this year!
I’m pretty sure Antonelli will play SS that’s a good hitting infield, if only the outfielders could get some hits………
Antonelli did make two errors at short Tuesday night. Hope this is not a foretaste of things to come for the Chiefs defense.
Alright! Another big motor guy gets promoted. If he does well in AAA and gets a good callup, he will easily put pressure on Desi and Espy in the infield. Steve has shown he is a good lead-off type guy and possibly could take a position in the future. It sure looks like we have a talented Middle Infield in this organization with Desmond, Espinosa, Lombardozzi, and Rendon if he signs!
Lombardozzi is still a switch-hitter. He isn’t a “daily gem” in the field at short or second the way Espinosa is. He might get AFL and a September call-up but he will likely be in Syracuse at the beginning of next season still adapting to switch-hitting. And that is the one skill that could get him a starting position instead of the ubiquitous utility-man label.
Lombo played in the AFL last year I think they might send him to play in one of the Carribean leagues this summer.
Lombo’s presence should Mark happy.

Lombo should be called up—great family background of players—works his tail off—does all aspects of the game perfect–Nats mid infield is not hitting period–scouts and upper brass know it–they made some mistakes with the two mid-infielders—they all missed Lombo—Kid is a winner period—
