After a 70-minute rain delay, the Red Wings started their usual Sunday carousel of relievers and fell behind 5-2 before rallying for five in the last of the 5th to take a 7-5 lead. Syracuse answered with three in the 6th and one in the 9th while Rochester’s bats took the rest of the afternoon off in a 9-7 loss. Zach Penrod opened the game and let in three on three hits and a walk over an inning and a 1/3rd. The loss went to Justin Lawrence on a three-run HR. Christian “Hey It’s Franklin” walked twice and scored twice but was the beer man in a ten-hit parade led by Riley Adams with two singles and a double. Roster moves: RHPs Jake Bird, Riley Cornelio optioned from Washington.

Harrisburg dropped the series finale with a 12-2 loss to Portland. Riley Maddox went the first four innings and gave up the first four runs on three hits and four walks while striking out six. Branden Boissiere, who had broken up the no-hitter with a double in the 2nd, ended the shutout bid with his fifth AA HR. Kervin Pichardo and T.J. White both went 1-for-3 with a walk as the Sens racked up seven hits and three walks total on the afternoon. Roster moves: RHPs Ben Grable, Jack Cebert assigned from Washington.
Wilmington vs. Frederick – PPD
They waited almost two hours to call this one a rainout. They’ll make it up on Wednesday, August 19 when during the next Keys-Blue Rocks series.

Fredericksburg vs. Wilson – PPD
Roughly 375 miles down I-95 from Frawley, the series finale between Fredericksburg and Wilson was postponed within an hour of the scheduled first pitch (how novel). They’ll make it up when the Warbirds come to FredVegas during the final week of the regular season in September.

There are still two weeks and two days to suffer through for the D-Nats, who are currently on a six-game losing streak and but a game behind the D-Padres Brown for the worst record in the DSL. This week, it’s six games in six days—courtesy of last week’s rainout—with road games today, Thursday, and Friday and home games tomorrow, Wednesday, and Saturday.
