• Meneses 1-4, R
Rochester barely avoided a shutout as Joey Meneses singled with two out, took second on defensive indifference, and scored ahead of Andrew Pinckney’s RBI double in the 9th inning of a 3-1 loss to Worcester. Andrew Alvarez gave up two runs on five hits and four walks over five and a 1/3rd innings while striking out three to lose his fifth game. Pinckney also singled and was the sole Red Wing batter to reach base twice for Rochester. Roster moves: OF Robert Hassell promoted from Harrisburg; RHP Orlando Ribalta optioned from Washington.
Harrisburg Senators, 23-34, T5th place, 16GB, E.L. Southwest – 61-65 Overall
The Senators make their final road trip of 2024 with a trip to Bowie to play the BaySox for five night games and a day game on Sunday. It’s not clear if there will be a corresponding move from Wilmington, though an obvious candidate would be Phillip Glasser given his age (24) and his usage in the outfield. That move may not come until next week when guys may be “promoted” from Wilmington to play one more week. Likewise from Harrisburg to Rochester the following week.
Wilmington Blue Rocks, 24-36, 6th Place, 11GB, Sally Lg. North – 55-71 Overall
Wilmington won its first series since late July but finishes the season with a trip to Brooklyn for six. They would have to sweep the Cyclones in order to not finish in last place in the second half.
Fredericksburg Nationals, 35-25, 1st Place, ½ GA, C.L. North – 70-55 Overall
The FredNats return to Fredericksburg to close out the second half against the Hillcats for six, including a matinee tomorrow. With the abbreviated playoff schedule, there is functionally no difference between winning the second half or qualifying as the wild card team; Fredericksburg hosts Game 1 of the CLDS either way. Meanwhile, Seaver King was named the Carolina Lg. Player of the Week for Aug. 26 – Sept. 1, going 8-for-22 with six runs scored and three RBI.
