The Red Wings continued to administer an Indiana paternity test (“Who’s your Daddy?!”) to the IronPigs as they won their third straight, 12-3. Andrew Alvarez won his fourth AAA contest with five innings of two-run ball on four hits, no walks, and seven whiffs. Rochester tied its season high with 18 hits, with Drew Millas leading the way with three singles and a double and followed by Travis Blankenhorn, who fell a double shy of the cycle while smacking his 25th HR. Roster moves: RHP Spenser Watkins placed on the 7-day I.L., retroactive to 8/21.

Conversely, Harrisburg couldn’t get enough runs for their pitchers as Akron took its third straight from them, 3-2. Seth Shuman went the first five and gave up two runs on six hits (one HR) over five innings. He walked none and struck out five for a no-decision in his AA debut. C.J. Stubbs was the sole Senator with multiple hits as he singled twice and scored ahead of Phillip Glasser’s game-tying RBI single in the 6th. In the first game, it was another case of too little, too late as the Blue Rocks got three in the 7th but fell, 7-6. Mikey Tepper opened the game with two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three. Austin Amaral took the loss as he handed over his beer and was spanked for five runs on five hits (one HR) and two walks over the next two innings. Joe Naranjo reached base four times on two singles and two walks while T.J. White homered and drove in two to lead the Wilmington offense.

For those wondering why Travis Sykora remains in Fredericksburg, one theory is that perhaps the Nationals don’t want the 20-y.o. Texan to feel the pressure of having to give up no runs to not lose, which Wilmington did for the eighth straight game as they were no-hit for the second time and shut out for the 15th time in the “aftercap,” 6-0.

Fredericksburg jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three and cruised to a 5-2 win over Columbia. Travis “Sunday” Sthele notched his third quality start and won his fourth non-Sunday start with both Fireflies runs allowed over six innings on seven hits and a walk while strikng out three. Elijah Green singled twice, doubled once, and struck out twice while Cristhian Vaquero reached base three times on a double, walk, and a single to lead the FredNats attack.
