An 8th-inning HR off closer Rico Garcia broke a 3-3 tie and secured the Mets’ three-game sweep of the Red Wings. Thad Ward needed 90 pitches to get 12 outs, as allowed one run on five hits and four walks while striking out five. It was the 12th time in 18 starts that he failed to go five innings. Brady Lindsly and Travis Blankenhorn both had a single and a double while Dylan Crews hit a two-run HR and walked twice to pace the Rochester offense.

Three Harrisburg pitchers combined on to shut out New Hampshire on eight hits, 3-0. Andry Lara went seven full innings for the second time this season, giving up six hits and one walk while fanning five as he notched his tenth quality start. Samuel Reyes worked around a hit in the 8th to earn the hold while Marquis Grissom did the same in the 9th to earn the save. Andrew Pinckney singled twice, doubled once, and scored a run while Onix Vega reached base three times with a base-on-balls and two safeties to lead the Senators offense.

It was a battle of the bullpens, as the Ironbirds crashed and burned in the top of the 9th while the Blue Rocks relievers bent but did not break to take the game, 5-3 and the series, 2-1. Jarlin Susana gave up all three Aberdeen runs on four hits (one HR) and a walk over five innings. He struck out seven. Wilmingon rallied for four in their last “ups,” highlighted by a two-run double by (the law firm of) Murphy Stehly. That made a winner out of Brendan Collins, who loaded the bases after getting the first two outs then got a strikeout to strand all three. Jaren Zinn walked two with one out but got a flyout and a striekout to earn the save.

Salem hung three on Fredericksburg in the 2nd and two in the 3rd en route to a 6-3 win to complete the weekend sweep. Dustin Saenz went the first three innings and was tagged for five runs (three earned) on five hits. He walked none and struck none, one less than all four FredNats pitchers combined. Nate Ochoa singled and tripled while Brandon Pimentel drove in two with a single and a groundout to pace the three-hit, six-walk offense.

According to Baseball America, the Nationals have signed one NDFA – Francesco Barbieri, OF, Ave Maria (JuCo, FL), a 24-y.o. Canadian playing in his fifth year since H.S. due to the lost COVID year.
DSL Nationals – OFF DAY
Two DSL Nationals appeared in yesterday’s DSL scouting showcase All-Star game. OF Dashyll Tejada was put in at 1B and moved to SS and was in the starting lineup. At the plate, he went 0-for-3. In the field, he had four putouts at 1B and one assist at SS. Angel Feliz came into the game as a pinch-hitter then played in the field at 2B but had no defensive chances. He went 0-for-2 with a walk, a strikeout, and a stolen base.
