Cards Deal Nats 7-6 Loss

In between Angel Hernandez being Angel Hernandez, the Cards rallied from an early 4-2 deficit and held off the Nats for a 7-6 win.

The loss went to Josiah Gray, who gave up five runs on five hits (one HR) and three walks while striking out two. He left the game with the bases loaded and one out in the 2nd. Methuse..uh, Luis Reyes rolled a double play to limit the damage and strand two runners.

Jacob Young got the start in LF and batted ninth. He went 1-for-3 and stole his third base.

The rest of the watchlisters came off the bench…

…Robert Hassell replaced Lane Thomas in the 5th and played one inning of defense.

…Dylan Crews took Hassell’s spot in the lineup but played CF for the last four innings. At the plate, the Nats #1 pick last summer went 0-for-2 with a strikeout.

…Brady House subbed for Nick Senzel at 3B in the 6th and struck out twice.

…Drew Millas was the second backstop and committed an error. He grounded out in his only plate appearance.

…Trey Lipscomb replaced C.J. Abrams at SS for the last three innings and flew out in his sole AB.



The loss dropped Washington to .500 (6-6) for the spring. Today is the first of two split squad games this spring, with games in West Palm Beach at 12 p.m. (“visiting” Houston) and 6 p.m. (hosting Miami).

The noon game will be broadcast on MASN while the night game can be heard on MLB Radio (Marlins feed).

Historically, this usually when the first round of cuts are made. If so, it’s not clear if those will be announced between games of after both games have been played.
