And yet that momentum continued in the bottom of the 1st on Saturday night, as the FredNats scored three times without a base hit with a little “help” from Adam Shoemaker, the Braves 11th Rd pick in the 2021 Draft, who walked three and hit two batters and was so slow to the plate that the FredNats stole four bases with nary a throw from the Augusta catcher.
The GreenJackets got one back in the 3rd to make it 3-1 only to see the FredNats respond an inning later with a one-out single from the Dylan Crews followed by a a triple by Yohandy Morales.
Fredericksburg put the game away in the 6th as they sent nine men to the plate and five runs in on four hits, capped off by a two-run single by Andrew Pinckney to go up 9-2.
The trio of Crews, Morales, and Pinckey (a.k.a. the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Rd. picks from the 2023 Draft) combined for six hits, four runs, and eight RBI, with Crews hitting his 5th HR (pictured above) in just 60 at-bats, which is roughly the pace of a 40HR season.
Again, it was just an August night in Low-A. But if you squint just a little, and hope a little bit more, you can dream about maybe seeing this again in a few years on a larger stage and a higher level.
The series concludes thia afternoon with a Austin Amaral (0-1, 5.40) making his fourth start for Fredericksburg, opposed by Lucas Braun (0-0, 0.00) for Augusta.
