FCL Nationals OFF DAY @ FCL Cardinals, 10 a.m.
DSL Nationals @ DSL Phillies White, 11 a.m.

Rochester Red Wings, 7-8, 8th place I.L. East, 3½ GB – 41-47 Overall
The change of halves hasn’t really affected the fortunes of the Red Wings, and it probably shouldn’t because the transactions below reinforce the point that AAA is more about a place to keep replacement-level players than prosepcts. Roster moves: RHP Roddery Muñoz claimed on waivers from Atlanta (DFA’d 7/13), optioned from Washington; RHP Joan Adon optioned from Washington; LHP Joe LaSorsa recalled to Washington; RHP Tyler Danish released (too many donut jokes? OK, fine: opted out of contract).

Harrisburg Senators, 7-8, T4th place E.L. Southwest, 2½ GB – 38-45 Overall
Harrisburg, on the other hand, could make a run for it in the 2nd half if they can just get some consistent, sustained offense. Trey Lipscomb has been giving the Senators the kind of offense expected from James Wood (and vice-versa). Unfortunately, as Robert Hassell has shown, it may take a while for Wood to get on track.

Wilmington Blue Rocks, 6-12, 5th Place, 7GB, Sally Lg. North – 35-47 Overall
Injuries are the story for the Blue Rocks in the second half – how Brady House is recovering from his 2022 back injury (surgery?) and when the Nationals are going to admit that Jake Bennett is hurt. The party line is that his innings are being managed, which may have been feasible to explain the gap between June 6 and 17, but it’s now been 24 days since the 22-y.o. has started. That’s three (3) missed turns in the rotation, never mind that he hasn’t pitched on less than seven days’ rest in three months.

Fredericksburg Nationals, 7-10, 6th Place, 3GB, C.L. North – 37-43 Overall
Fredericksburg is Harrisburg in reverse. The offense has been good enough, but the pitching has not. They’ve already gotten some new arms from the FCL (and probably won’t get any more for another month), so the improvement will have to be guys like Jose Atencio figuring things out. Elijah Green has also been AWOL (last appeared in a game June 28), but unlike Bennett, it’s doubtful he’s been injured. More than a hundred strikeouts in less than 60 games is the more likely explanation. The primary question is whether they’ll officially send him to Florida when he’s given the all-clear to play in games that count.

FCL Nationals – OFF DAY
It’s four games in four days this week, three as the visiting team, with road trips today and Friday.

DSL Rockies 2 DSL Nationals 1 – SUSP.
• Farias 3IP, 4H, 2R, 1ER, 0BB, 3K
• E. Soto 1-1, 2B

Rain interrupted the DSL Nationals 25th loss yesterday in the 4th inning. They’ll make this up next Wednesday, which had been a scheduled off day.
