After the two teams had a battle of which bullpen could suck less on Tuesday, the Red Wings and Bisons relievers tangled for seven innings on Wednesday with Buffalo emerging as the winner in the 12th, 5-4. José Ureña went the first five and pitched five innings of two-run ball on five hits and two walks while striking out two. Jeter Downs’s RBI double in the 7th knotted it up at 2-2 while Jake Noll did the same in the 10th. Buffalo didn’t hit it out of the infield in the 10th, but two balls got past catcher Jacob Nottingham to tie it at 3-3. The Bisons got three hits off losing pitcher Tommy Romero in the 12th, but it was another wild pitch that scored the fifth Buffalo run. Nottingham was able to offset one of his miscues with an RBI single in the 12th but Richie Martin was unable to deliver the second run needed to force a 13th inning. Roster moves: OF Alex Call recalled to Washington.

Akron went to town on Mitchell Parker in its three-run 3rd en route to a 4-2 win over Harrisburg. The southpaw retired just one of five batters faced, givng up a homer, a double, and two singles as he suffered his fourth loss. Starting pitcher Cole Henry made his first appearance since June 16 and tossed two scoreless innings, though he needed 40 pitches to get the six outs, allowing a hit and a walk and striking out three. James Wood homered in the 4th to break up the shutout while Trey Lipscomb doubled in the 6th to get the Senators within one at 3-2. Harrisburg loaded the bases with two out in the 9th after Donovan Casey was hit by a pitch (the third Senator on the night, though two ‘Ducks were plunked, too) and then thrown out for something he said to the ump, though the idea that he would be hit intentionally to put the tying run in scoring seems laughable. Alas, James Wood got ahead 2-0 and then struck out on three pitches to end the game. Roster moves: C Jarrett Gonzales placed on the Development List; RHP Cole Henry activated from the Development List.

The Cyclones spun the Blue Rocks pitchers for 16 hits for a 9-3 smackdown. Bryan Cáceres was strafed for six runs and ten hits over just four innings to lose his first High-A contest. Wilmington got two runs early on back-to-back singles by Jared McKenzie and Jeremy De La Rosa but only managed four more singles after the 1st, with Darren Baker and McKenzie both gong 2-for-4 to lead the seven-hit attack.

Two outfield errors led to four unearned runs in the 7th as Delmarva downed Fredericksburg, 7-4. Erik Tolman made his second Low-A start and let in two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out four. The blown-save-loss went to Franklin Marquez on three and two walks as the southpaw continues to prove why ERA is overrated, having put on 39 baserunners in his 22⅔ innings to raise his FIP to 3.99. Daylen Lile continues to make his case to move up to Wilmington with two singles, two walks, two stolen bases, and a single to lead the FredNats’ eight-hit, four-walk offense.

The FCL Nationals got this week’s memo about winning despite poor bullpen work and gave up three runs over three innings but scored two in the 7th to tie and two in the 8th to win, 6-5 in a completion of last Friday’s game. Andy Luis coughed up the aforementioned three runs on three hits (one HR) and three walks and got the ugly win. Winder Diaz singled in the free runner in the 8th and came around to score on Nathaniel Ochoa Leyva’s one-out single. Both F-Nats rallies got the help from the F-Cards with a balk in the 7th and a wild pitch in the 8th.

Gabriel Agostini got the start and gave up five runs on nine hits over four innings to lose for their third time in five starts. All three relievers were just as ineffective (if not more) as the game was mercifully only seven innings. Nathaniel Ochoa singled twice why Mike Tyson’s favorite F-Nat Cristhian Vaquero doubled to highlight the six-hit assault. Roster moves: IF Murphy Stehly assigned from Fredericksburg for MiLB Rehab.
