In the continuation from Saturday afternoon, Jake Noll homered in the top of the 9th for his third hit and his third RBI to tie things up at 3-3. Alas, Luis Cessa was unable to get his third save of the series as he put on four consecutive batters in the bottom of the 9th with a double-walk-Robles-single sequence to lose, 4-3. Noll also walked twice as did the Other Jake (Alu). The rest of the lineup went 3-for-26 and 0-for-12 with RISP as the Red Wings left on 12 runners.

Matt Adams’s solo HR in the 2nd nearly stood up until Worcester’s Nick Sogard went deep to lead off the 7th and tie the game at 1-1. Drew Millas converted the free runner in the top of the 8th into the game-winning run with a two-out single while Tim Cate earned his first save while retiring the side in order in the 8th. Wily Peralta started the game and tossed five scoreless, walking three and striking out three before giving way to Gerson Moreno, who blew his 4th save with the aforementioned HR but also picked up his sixth win. Darren Baker and Erick Mejia both went 2-for-3 to lead the Red Wings hit column as Rochester racked up 10 hits total. Roster moves: RHP Amos Willingham recalled to Washington.

The Senators blew a 3-2 lead in the top of the 9th but got the run back in the bottom of the 9th to take the game, 4-3, and the series, 4-2. Lucas Knowles made the spot start instead of following Cole Henry. The 25-y.o. southpaw gave up a solo HR and two hits total over four innings while walking one and striking out two. Tyler Schoff coughed up the tying run in the top of the 9th on three singles but kept the go-ahead run at third with back-to-back whiffs to end the inning. Harrisburg went small-ball in the bottom of the 9th as they converted Frankie Tostado’s second single into the decisive run with a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly, which gave Schoff the (dreaded) blown-save win.

Brooklyn outslugged Wilmington, 11-7 to salvage a series split. Bryan Cáceres reverted to the mean as the Cyclones spun him for eight runs on nine hits (one HR) over five innings as he lost for the fourth time in six High-A starts. Geraldi Diaz drove in five with a grand slam and a sac fly while Murphy Stehly and Branden Boisserie each drove in one to power the Blue Rocks’ seven-hit, six-walk offense.

The FredNats rallied from deficits of 3-0 and 8-4 to close out the series with a 9-8 win. Jarlin Susana was torched for eight runs on nine hits and two walks over three and 2/3rds to balloon his season ERA to 4.73. Kevin Rodriguez (2⅓ IP), Franklin Marquez (1IP), and Marquis Grissom (2IP) combined for five and a 1/3rd scoreless relief innings, with the win going to Marquez and the save going to Grissom, who endured not one but two throwing errors by Cortland Lawson in the 9th. Lawson doubled twice, scored twice, and drove in two while Roismar Quintana reached base four times with two singles, a double, and a walk to lead the Fredericksburg offense.
FCL Nationals, 15-18, 5th place FCL East, 5½ GB
The FCL Nationals went 1-3 and fell percentage points behind the FCL Astros (16-19) into 5th place in the FCL East. This week, it’s six games to make up rainouts with an off day on Wednesday and road trips to Jupiter on Thursday and Port St. Lucie on Friday.
DSL Nationals, 8-30, 9th Place DSL South, 21½ GB
Carlos Batista defied the odds and represented the D-Nats… by striking out in his lone at-bat as the second DH in the DSL All Star Game, which was won by the A.L., 4-3. Don’t look now, but the D-Nats are now just a game out out of 8th place, trailing the D-Twins who have gone 1-9 over their last 10 games.
