Team Israel Blanks Nats, 9-0

A four-run 5th broke open a 1-0 game for Team Israel, which shut out the Nats, 9-0. Washington left ten baserunners on base and was 1-for-10 with RISP.

Cade Cavalli got the start and allowed the first run on three hits and a walk over three innings. He struck out six but was tagged with the “L.”

James Wood got the start in CF and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout. He also saw time in right field after the Nats began subbing in quite a few minor-leaguers, most notably Max Romero, who collected the only extra-base hit (a two-out double in the 6th) and singled for two of the six (6) hits mustered by the Nationals.

Here’s how the rest of the Watchlisters did:

Team Israel, which lost to the Marlins on Wednesday, 11-5, moves on to play in Pool D of the WBC against Nicaragua on Sunday, Puerto Rico on Monday, the D.R. on Tuesday, and then Venezuela on the 15th. So in other words, their competition will be a wee bit better over the next four games.

Miami comes to West Palm Beach tonight to play Washington. Patrick Corbin will make his third start of the spring against former National minor-leaguer Jesús Luzardo. The game can be heard locally on 106.7FM.
