Marlins Blank Nats, 7-0

Miami scored in four of its first five “ups” to build a 7-0 lead that the Nats barely challenged—three hits, three walks, one (1) runner reaching second base. The loss stopped Washington’s ST win streak at four.

Trevor Williams gave up all seven runs on ten hits, including a Rickey Henderson in the top of the 1st to lead off the game, over four and 2/3rds innings. He walked three and struck out four.

Jeter Downs got the start at 2B and reverted to the mean, going hitless in three trips to the plate while striking out twice.

Thad Ward pitched in relief again and put up a goose egg in the 7th with a 1-2-3 inning and two whiffs.

Just two watchlist players came off the bench:

The Nats remain in West Palm Beach to host the Tigers tomorrow afternoon. Chad Kuhl is slated to make his fifth appearance and second start for Washington against Eduardo Rodriguez for Detroit. The game can be heard on MLB.com (both teams’ feeds) and locally on 980 AM.
