Back-to-back homers in the top of the 8th turned a 6-5 lead into the eventual 8-6 loss for the Red Wings. Joan Adon got the start and gave up four runs on four hits (one HR) and a walk. He struck out a season-high of eight. Connor Sadzeck took the loss, plus a blown save, giving up the aforementioned HRs in the 8th while retiring just one of five batters faced. Jecksson Flores came off the bench and hit a three-run HR to highlight Rochester’s four-run 6th that erased a 4-2 deficit. Lucius Fox led the Red Wings’ hit column with three singles while Jake Alu added two more safeties to his 14-game hit streak (25 hits, 45 total bases since Sept. 11) plus an RBI.

We’re nearing the end of the second September since the MLB’s takeover of MiLB, which gives us an unnecessarily long time to prospect-watch a level with few (if any) prospects. For those wondering, this will not change in 2023. The “A” teams will finish on September 10th while AA goes until the 17th and AAA ends on the 24th while starting on March 31st (pro tip to the Red Wings promo folks: A winter hat giveaway on Opening Day).

The Arizona Fall League starts on Tuesday, and as usual, MLB intends to apply its new 2023 rules to the league as a trial run. These rules are old hat to us, but I suspect we may see some articles from the beat writers and casual fans who are just discovering them. [Ed. note: Insert “Light Dawns on Marblehead” here]

For those wondering, Lee has been in touch with me and hopes to be able to provide photographs for one more season. If/when I hear otherwise (or get confirmation), I’ll pass that along.
