The Mud Hens opened the 3rd inning with back-to-back homers which would prove to be more than enough as Toledo shut out Rochester, 3-0 on four hits. Tommy Romero made his first start for the Red Wings and was lifted with one out in the 3rd after giving up those two runs on those two hits. He struck out three and walked none while taking the loss. Nick Banks hit his 8th double for the sole extra-base hit while John Nogowski, Andrew Stevenson, and Tres Barrera rounded out the Red Wings hit column with a single apiece.

The first two Harrisburg pitchers struck out a combined 16 batters the Senators doubled up the Flying Squirrels, 8-4 to take the opener. Seth Romero didn’t make it out of the 2nd as he walked four and gave up a two-run HR and needed 51 pitches to get his four outs (all by way of the K). Perhaps it was ’70s night as the free swinging continued for Luis Reyes, who struck out a career-best 12 batters over the next six and a 1/3rd innings, and picked up his fifth win. He allowed one run on one hit (only get one guess) and walked one. Jack Dunn led the Sens’ ten-hit parade with two doubles and a single while Wilson Garcia drove in three with a single, double, and an RBI groundout.

Brooklyn erased an early 1-0 deficit with two runs in the 4th and held on to edge Wilmington, 2-1. Dustin Saenz lost for the sixth time in eight A+ starts with five innings of two-run ball on a walk and six hits. He struck out two. Carlos Romero (2IP) and Orlando Ribalta (1P) combined for three scoreless innings of relief to give the offense a chance to come back but 15 K’s and a 1-for-11 mark with RISP rendered their efforts moot. Kevin Strohschein singled twice while Drew Millas and Yoander Rivero each had a double to pace the Blue Rocks attack.

The FredNats conducted another paternity test and it turns out they’re still the Shorebirds’ daddy as they took the opener, 8-4 – the 10th straight Fredericksburg win over Delmarva. Jackson Rutledge turned in his third straight quality start to win his third game in August and seventh overall, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out seven. Every Fredericksburg batter had a hit, with Geraldi Diaz leading the 14-hit salvo with two singles and his 15th double followed by Jared McKenzie with a single, double, and two RBI. Will Frizzell, who didn’t start playing for Fredericksburg until July 22, smacked his 10th home run.
