The Red Wings put up four in the 2nd and held on for a 5-2 win over the Storm Chasers in the series opener. Cade Cavalli left with an injury (blister) with two outs in the 4th and gave up an unearned run on two hits. He walked none and struck out six. Francisco Perez was credited with the win as the most effective reliever while Alberto Baldonado struck out the side in the 8th for the hold and Tyler Clippard did the same in the 9th for the save. Andrew Stevenson got the big hit with an Earl Weaver Special for his 7th HR as Rochester tallied seven hits and drew six walks.

Harrisburg nearly blew a 7-0 lead after four innings but Bradly Lindsly’s HR in the 7th provided the difference in an 8-7 win over Hartford. Josh Rogers only gave up one HR and five hits total, though he let in four runs, walked three, and fanned five over five and a 1/3rd innings while getting the “W.” Justin Connell reached base five times with a single, homer, and three walks while Anthony Young doubled and took three free passes to lead the Senators offense.

The bullpen melted down in the 8th, but it was the Crawdad “firemen” who let in five runs to turn a 1-0 nailbiter into a 6-0 whitewashing for the Blue Rocks. Lucas Knowles stepped in for four no-hit innings, walking three and fanning five. Garvin Alston (2IP), Richard Guasch (2IP), and Troy Stainbrook (1IP) combined for five scoreless to preserve the shutout. Darren Baker and Israel Pineda both homered while José Sánchez doubled to power the Wilmington six-hit attack – two of which came in three RISP chances.

Fredericksburg’s four-game win streak came to a halt with a 6-2 loss to Augusta. Andrew Alvarez got the start and was dinged for three runs on eight hits (one HR) and two walks over five innings. He struck out six. Sammy Infante cashed in the second of two (2) RISP chances with a two-run single in the top of the 7th to bring the FredNats within one at 3-2. Alas, Marc Davis was, um, stung for three runs by the GreenJackets in the bottom of the 7th to put the game away for Augusta. Fredericksburg was limited to five hits and one walk, with Infante the only batter to have multiple hits and Viandel Peña drawing the only walk.

The F-Nats struck for three in the 1st and five in the 4th as they took this weather-shortened game, 8-2. Cole Quintanilla got the rehab opening assignment and allowed a hit in the 1st. Putative starter Adrian Ogando shut out the FAO’s on two hits over the next five while striking out a career-high of eight. Roismar Quintana, Will Frizzell, and Erick Tejeda each went 2-for-4, combining for three runs, three RBI, and a double (Quintana).
