Andrew Stevenson homered to lead off the 9th and give the Red Wings a 7-4 lead. That turned out to be pivotal as the RailRiders rallied for two runs with two outs and had the tying and winning runs aboard before Jordan Weems induced a flyball to Stevenson to end it and stumble to a 7-6 win. Jefry Rodriguez led the parade of relievers and labored through two and 2/3rds innings, letting in two runs on five hits and a walk. Jace Fry cleaned up his mess and pitched another inning to pick up the win. Stevenson, Adrián Sanchez, and Ildemaro Vargas would account for all seven Rochester hits and RBIs.

Jake Irvin pitched into the 6th for the first time this season, but it may have been an inning too far as Richmond got to him for a three-run HR and four runs total as he suffered his second AA loss. He pitched five and a 1/3rd innings, allowed four hits and no walks, and struck out eight. Jake Alu homered to break up the shutout as the Senators were held to five hits and three walks total.

Tim Cate notched his first quality start for 2022 and fourth win as the Blue Rocks survived a late rally to win, 4-3. Cate gave up an unearned run on three hits and two walks while striking out four. Jose Ferrer added two goose eggs for his second hold. Amos Willingham came on as an injury replacement (Tyler Yankosky)* and served up two runs on three hits while getting the last two outs. Nick Banks bookended the Wilmington tallies with an RBI single in the 1st and a two-run HR in the 7th. Jordy Barley doubled twice while Kevin Strohschein gunned down another runner at the plate for a 9-2 DP to end the 8th.

Fredericksburg picked up where they off on Thursday night and put a hurt on Myrtle Beach, as they extended their lead to 7-0 on an Earl Weaver special off the bat of J.T. Arruda with two out in the 5th and cruised to a 9-1 win. Bryan Peña earned his second win as he pitched three and 2/3rds innings with the one Pelicans runs let in on three hits and a walk while setting down four on strikes. Arruda also singled and doubled and drove in four total while Steven Williams singled twice and doubled once to lead the FredNats’ nine-hit, five-walk attack.

The FredNats were shut out, 3-0, on five hits in the nightcap. Dustin Saenz returned from the I.L. but lost for the first time, giving up one run on a HR and striking out two over three innings. Sammy Infante singled twice, while Jacob Young, Yoander Rivero, and Steven Williams each singled once. It was the fifth shutout of the season for the FredNats, three of which have come at the, um, wings of the Pelicans during this series.

The F-Nats outhit the F-Cards 9-0 but issued five walks and committed five errors, which was “good” enough to lose in 10 innings, 4-3. Gabriel Agostini put in two frames as the starter and issued two walks while striking out three. The loss went to Miguel Gomez, who let in the free runner in the top of the 10th, with the “help” of Angel Geraldo’s third error of the game. The F-Nats never led in this one, tying the game at 1-1 in the 5th and 3-3 in the bottom of the 9th. Geraldo singled twice to lead the hit column while Yeuri Amparo collected the sole extra-base hit, a pinch-hit double in the 7th.

The D-Nats rallied for three early and two late as they edged the D-Mariners, 5-4. Gustavo Rivas pitched into the 5th but gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits (one HR) and a walk while striking out five. Bryan Polanco closed it out for the win with a run let in on a solo HR and three hits total over the final two and a 1/3rd innings. He walked some and fanned six. Dawry Martinez drove in the tying and winning runs with a two-run double as he, Jhoan Contreras, and Misael Mojica each had two hits to lead the D-Nats’ offense.
