Rochester Red Wings (13-11, 2nd, 1GB I.L. East)
Rochester broke even against Syracuse last week, yet somehow managed to gain a game in the I.L. East. This week, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre messes up my template visits for six with a late-morning start tomorrow and day games this weekend.
Roster moves: LHP Sam Clay, RHP Francisco Perez optioned from Washington (corresponding moves not yet announced).
Harrisburg Senators (12-9, 2nd, 1GB E.L. Southwest)
The Senators won just two of six against the Yard Goats while displaying a disturbing all-or-nothing, homering-or-not trend on offense. They’re 3rd in the Eastern League for both runs allowed and runs scored and performing exactly to their Pythagorean projection. This week, Harrisburg heads down to Bowie for six, which includes opportunities to play hooky tomorrow (12:05 p.m.) and Thursday (11:05 a.m.).
Wilmington Blue Rocks (10-11, 5½ GB, 4th Sally Lg. North)
Wilmington returns home after a 2-4 trip to upstate N.Y. to host the far-flung Bowling Green Hot Rods. Pitching has been carrying this team, but the offense hasn’t been able to cover for it despite scoring 15 more runs than allowed.
Fredericksburg Nationals (14-7, 3GA, 1st C.L. North)
The FredNats split against the RiverDogs, which is probably what you might expect when the league’s best hitting team faces the league’s best pitching team, given that defense is often the wildcard in the minor leagues. This week, Fredericksburg visits Lynchburg for four games before returning back home to complete the series (best guess: due to Liberty University commencement this weekend).
