Two Rochester pitchers combined on a one-hit, 3-0 shutout of Syracuse in the opener. Cade Cavalli’s command issues were still present, but the Nats’ top pitching prospect still managed to no-hit the S-Mets for five and a 1/3rd innings before he was lifted for a reliever with a runner on first. He walked three, struck out one (1), and a hit batter while throwing 81 pitches, 41 for strikes in his first win of the season. Jordan Weems lost the no-no on a bunt against the shift but worked out of two-runners on jam in the 6th and set the side down in order in the 7th to earn the save, his second. The Red Wings managed just six hits, with two apiece by Josh Palacios and Jake Noll.

In the “aftercap,” the Mets doubled up the Red Wings to split the twinbill, 4-2. Logan Verrett made his second spot start and lost again. The former Oriole let in three runs on two homers and five hits total. He walked one and fanned three, leaving the game in a 3-0 hole. Rochester got back two runs for him in the bottom of the 4th, highlighted by Joey Meneses’s fifth HR of the season. Andrew Young led the Red Wings hit column with two doubles and a single.

Harrisburg’s inability to score without the longball came back to bite them in a 4-2 loss to Hartford. Meanwhile, it would appear that Stephen got his groove back as Fuentes tossed six frames of one-run ball on five hits and one walk while striking out five. He was rewarded with this second straight quality start with a no-decision as neither Francys Peguero nor Kody Clemmer could keep the Yard Goats off the board in the last three innings. The Senators went 0-for-8 with RISP and left on seven. Jake Alu paced the Harrisburg offense with a single, walk, and a homer.

The Blue Rocks dug themselves out of a 5-1 hole to take a 6-5 lead after six and a half innings but the ‘pen couldn’t hold it for a 7-6 loss. Seth Shuman retired just three of eight batters faced as he threw 38 pitches in the 1st. Ike Schlabach took the loss after garnering a hold for a scoreless 7th. Tyler Yankosky let in both inherited runners for the blown save. Darren Baker singled twice, scored twice, doubled once, and drove in a run to lead the ten-hit, seven-walk offense

Fredericksburg broke out for four in the 6th to turn a 2-1 game into the eventual 6-1 outcome in favor of the FredNats. Dustin Saenz turned in his second quality start and was rewarded with his second win, allowing the sole RiverDogs run on six hits and one walk over six innings. He set down five on strikes. Bryan Peña put up one goose egg and Tyle Schoff two to close out the game. Jacob Young singled, scored twice, drove in a run, and swiped his ninth base while Drew Millas drove in two with a 3rd-inning single, and Brady House got back on the horse with a walk and an RBI double.
