Asked yet again to cover for the lack of offense, the Red Wings ‘pen faltered with two runs surrendered in the 9th for a 4-3 loss to the WooSox. Jefry Rodriguez made his first appearance since being outrighted and turned in three scoreless innings, with one hit, two walks, and two whiffs. Putative starter Sterling Sharp came on in the 4th and went the next five, allowing two runs on a home run and three hits total. He walked one, hit one, and struck out three. Nick Banks’s solo HR in the bottom of the 8th gave Rochester a 3-2 lead, but Aaron Barrett sandwiched two doubles around an out and two walks for the blown-save-loss. Banks also doubled to join Jecksson Flores (two singles) and Daniel Palka (1B, BB) as the only Rochester batters to reach base twice. Roster moves: LHP Alberto Baldonado added to 40-man, recalled to Washington.

The SeaWolves got all nine runs in the 5th for a 9-1 plundering of the Senators. Gerardo Carillo struggled again, allowing five runs on six hits and a walk over four and 1/3rd. Likewise for (the law firm of) Pearson McMahan, who let in both inherited runners along with four of his own. The two Coles teamed up in the 8th to break up the shutout, with Daily leading off with a triple and Freeman sending him home on his second single of the night. Harrisburg collected just five hits total but was .500 with RISP (ok, fine: 1-for-2).

The FCL Nats managed just two hits in a 3-2 extra-inning loss to the FCL Astros. Andry Lara gave up a run on a solo shot and three hits total over five innings. He walked one and struck out five, Jose Ferrer took the loss as he let in two runs in his third inning of work following Lara. He struck out five while taking his fourth loss. Daniel Marte drove in the first run with an RBI single in the 1st and scored the second run on an error in the 8th.

In the “aftercap,” the FCL Nationals broke open a 1-1 game with four runs in 2nd and held off the FCL Astros for an 8-5 win that split the doubleheader. Miguel Gomez was knocked from the box in the 3rd with four runs given up on five hits (one HR) and two walks while striking out one. Johan Otanez picked up the win, though he was shaky: one run, one hit, one HBP, three walks, and a wild pitch. Kevin Rodriguez stranded two while getting out of the 6th and set the side down in order in the 7th for the save.
