Rochester broke open a 2-1 game with two in the 4th and three in the 5th as they won the completion, 7-3. Sean Nolin took over for Tyler Eppler and threw five innings of relief, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while fanning seven. Jake Noll smacked two solo HRs while Ali Castillo singled and tripled to lead the Red Wings offense.

Corban Joseph’s solo HR in the bottom of the 6th proved to be the difference as the Red Wings took the second game, 4-3, to sweep the de facto doubleheader. Bryan Bonnell got the spot start and let in two runs over three innings. Alberto Baldonado followed but only slightly more effective – one run over two innings. The win went to Gabe Klobosits as the 26-y.o. put up two goose eggs to finish the game. Brandon Snyder led the hit column with two singles while Daniel Palka drove in two of the four runs to pace the Rochester offense. Roster moves: C Jakson Reetz added to 40-man roster, recalled to Washington; UT Adrián Sanchez activated from the 7-Day I.L.

Harrisburg took a brief 2-1 lead in the top of the 5th but Reading answered with three to take the opener, 4-2. Andrew Lee was charged with all four Fightin runs on five hits (one HR) over four and a 1/3rd innings to lose for the second time in July, fourth overall. He walked one and struck out three. The Senators were held to six hits but pushed across two runs on RBI singles by Gilbert Lara and Aldrem Corredor.

The Sens and Fightins played to a 1-1 tie in regulation but Reading emerged with the 3-2 win in nine innings for the doubleheader sweep. Carson Teel turned in five solid innings of one-run ball on three hits, no walks, and seven K’s. Jhon Romero was even better with two scoreless. Alas, the offense was limited to Nick Banks’s first HR of the season until extras, when Jake Alu delivered the second run on a sac fly after Gage Canning’s one-out single. Diego Moreno let in the free runner in both the 8th and 9th innings for the blown-save-loss.

Alex Troop turned in his first quality start of 2021 and fanned eight but the offense was AWOL again in a 3-1 Wilmington loss to Jersey Shore. Troop also committed two of the team’s four errors while giving up three runs on six hits (one HR) and a Victor Robles. Jacob Rhinesmith singled twice. So did the rest of the lineup with just one runner getting into scoring position and scoring on an infield error. The Blue Rocks hit into three double plays and left on one (1) baserunner.

The FCL Nats doubled up the FCL Astros for a 4-2 win to close out Week 2 of the FCL. Pedro González made his first start since May and tossed five innings of one-run ball on four hits and four walks for his first win of 2021. He struck out three and got the help of two double plays. Orlando Ribalta finished the game with two scoreless innings to earn the save. 23-y.o. NDFA Zach Cornell doubled, tripled, and scored two runs while Sammy Infante singled, doubled, and drove in the only run with a base hit as the FCL Nats scored three times while making outs.
