Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 14 Rochester 5
• Tomshaw (L, 0-5) 3⅔ IP, 7H, 9R, 7ER, 1BB, 2K, 4HR
• Baldonado 1⅓ IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 2K, 1-1 IR-S
• Swihart 3-4, R
• A. Sanchez 2-5, 2R, HR, 2RBI, E
• Kieboom 1-2, R, 2BB, SB, E
The RailRiders railroaded newcomer Matt Tomshaw and the Red Wings for four homers in a 14-5 demolition. Tomshaw also gave up a double, a walk, and two singles as he was charged with nine runs (seven earned) over three and 2/3rds innings for the loss. Just one of the five relievers who followed neither gave up a hit or let in a run as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre scored in six of eight “ups.” Blake Swihart (three singles) and Carter Kieboom (single, two walks) both reached base three times to lead the Rochester counterpunch.
Portland 7 Harrisburg 6 (10 inn.)
• S. Romero 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Dobzanski 3IP, 4H, R, ER, 2BB, 3K
• Bartow (L, 0-4) 1+ IP, 7H, 6R, 3ER, 2BB, 2K
• Alu 2-4, 2R, HR, 2RBI
• Wiseman 2-4, 2B, BB, RBI
• Banks 2-4, 2B(10)
A 5-1 lead proved to be too small for the slumping Frankie Bartow, who gave up the last six runs in Harrisburg’s 7-6, 10-inning loss to Portland. Rain shortened Seth Romero’s AA debut to just one inning (no, really – I checked) in which he struck out two on 15 pitches. Bryan Donzasnki turned in three innings of one-run relief while Reid Schaller and Jhon Romero both put up two goose eggs. Meanwhile, the Senator’s offense put up five runs, capped by Jake Alu’s two-run HR in the 9th to build a four-run lead. Bartow, who has given up a run in five of his last six appearances, might’ve survived four hits and a walk and preserved the win but for Jackson Cluff’s muff. After his teammates got him a run in the 10th, Bartow’s struggles continued with a single, double, intentional walk, and another single for the loss, and seven hits in the space of 13 batters.
Brooklyn 5 Wilmington 4
• Parker (L, 0-1) 5IP, 7H, 4R, 2ER, 0BB, 6K
• Peguero 3IP, 4H, R, ER, BB, 3K
• Connell 2-3, 2R, BB
• Meregildo 1-3, R, BB, HR(10), 2RBI, E
The Blue Rocks nearly came back from a 4-0 deficit but couldn’t push across the tying run in the 9th for a 5-4 loss. Mitchell Parker took the loss as he let in four runs (two earned) on seven hits over five innings. The 21-y.o. southpaw walked none and struck out six. Francys Peguero finished the game with a run on four hits and a walk while fanning three. Omar Meregildo offset his 4th inning error, which led to two unearned runs, with a two-run HR, and drew a walk in the 9th but watched from second base as Armond Upshaw struck out and Yasel Antuna popped out to end the game.
Salem 7 Fredericksburg 4
• Rutledge (L, 0-1) 3IP, 6H, 7R, 6ER, 2BB, 4K, HR, 2HBP, 61-37 PIT-K
• Willingham 3IP, 3H, 0R, 1BB, 0K
• Strohschein 2-3, R, BB,
• Boone 2-4, R, 2B, RBI
• Vega 0-4, PB(11)
Jackson Rutledge was hit early, hard, and often in a 7-4 Salem win over Fredericksburg. The Nats’ #1 pick in the 2019 Draft was pounded for seven runs on six hits (one HR), two walks, and two hit batsmen over three innings for the loss. The F-Nats broke out for four runs in the 7th to break up the shutout bid. Kevin Strochein reached base three times with two singles and a walk to lead the Fredericksburg offense. Ricardo Méndez’s hitting streak ended at 19 games with an 0-for-4 night .
FCL Nationals – OFF DAY
The FCL Nats are looking to even up the week with a win against the FCL Marlins, who beat them on Monday. Pay no attention to the three rain-affected games in between.
DSL Nationals 10 DSL Yankees1 6
• Atencio 4⅔ IP, 3H, 0R, BB, 3K
• Ju. Diaz (W, 1-0) 2⅓ IP, 3H, 4R, 1ER, 0BB, 6K, 2-0 IR-S
• Tejeda 2-4, 2R, HR, BB, 4RBI
• Luis 2-5, 3R, HR, 2RBI
Once again, the D-Nats prevented an organizational sweep as they remain in 1st place in the DSL South, tied with the D-Rockies.
