Syracuse vs. Rochester – PPD
Rochester was rained out for the second time this week, the fourth time this season. They’ll make it up with a doubleheader on Wednesday, July 14. Roster moves: IFs Ali Castillo, Corban Joseph reassigned from Harrisburg; SS Humberto Arteaga recalled to Washington; RHP Steven Fuentes recalled to Washington, placed on 60-Day I.L.

Two Somerset pitchers combined on a four-hit, seven-inning, 7-0 shutout of the Senators. It was the tenth blanking of Harrisburg of the season. Mario Sanchez took the brunt of the beating, giving up five runs on eight hits and a walk over five and 2/3rds innings. He struck out five while losing for the fifth time in 11 starts. Jake Alu singled twice in his AA debut to account for half of the Harrisburg hit total.

The Senators bounced back in the nightcap with a 5-2 win to split the doubleheader and split the series. All three of Tim Cate’s walks came in the 4th, in which he retired just one batter with two runs scoring. Jhon Romero relieved Cate with the bases loaded and rolled a double play to escape the jam and preserve the one-run lead. The Harrisburg offense got those two runs back with three singles, the last being a two-run safety by Aldrem Corredor. Five players had two hits in Harrisburg’s 11-hit attack. Wilmington got three of its seven walks in the 7th and cashed them in with three two-out singles to tie the game at 4-4. Alas, a leadoff HR in the 9th off Reid Schaller gave Rome the 5-4 win. Evan Lee got the start and was peppered for six hits over three innings. He let in two runs, walked two, but struck out five. J.T. Arruda (walk, single) and Brady Lindsly (2BB) were the only two batters to reach base twice as the Blue Rocks also struck out 13 times. Roster moves: IF Paul Witt reassigned from Frdericksburg.

The F-Nats blew leads of 5-1 and 11-6 but scored the winning run without a hit or walk in the 9th for a 12-11 walkoff win. Fredericksburg took the first big lead with a five-run 2nd capped by an Earl Weaver special by Viandel Peña – the first of two homers by the 20-y.o. second baseman. Michael Cuevas pitched into 5th for the third time but failed to finish the frame for the second time as the Red Sox strafed him for nine hits and five runs to hand the 20-y.o. a no-decision.
The offense got three in the 6th, two in the 7th, and one in the 8th while Gilberto Chu and Davis Moore combined for three and 2/3rds of one-run relief to get the game into the 9th with a five-run lead. Edward Urena came on to pitch the 9th but his Low-A debut was last-call-at-a-singles-bar ugly, as he gave up a homer, a single, a triple, and a walk while retiring just two batters (both by way of the K). Leif Strom let in the last run and one of his own to earn the blown save.
Jeremy Ydens, who led the F-Nats’ 11-hit parade with three singles, reached base on a dropped popup, took third on an Onix Vega sacrifice, and scored on an overthrow from a flyout to right for the 12-11 win.

The FCL Nats broke out for all four runs in the 5th as they doubled up the FCL Mets, 4-2 in seven innings. Bryan Caceres got the start and went four and 1/3rd innings with both FCL Mets runs allowed on five this and two walks. He hit two batters and struck out three. 18-y.o. Franklin Marquez picked up the win in his professional debut, giving up three hits and no walks over two and 2/3rd scoreless innings. He fanned two. Raimi Gomez led the Nats hit column with two singles and an RBI while 23-y.o. NDFA Brian Klein reached base twice with a single and a walk. Roster moves: LHP Franklin Marquez assigned from Washington.
