An Earl Weaver special in the 4th offset Luis García’s third HR as the Bison trampled the Red Wings, 5-2. Sean Nolin struck out eight but walked three, two of which scored on Christian Colon’s three-run HR. The 31-y.o. journeyman suffered his first loss of the season while giving up three runs on two hits and three walks over four innings. García also singled as he and Ramón Flores were the only two Rochester batters to reach base twice. Roster moves: C/1B Raudy Read placed on the 7-Day I.L.

Harrisburg put up three in the 1st and one in the 6th and the ‘pen held up for a 4-3 win over Richmond. Luis Reyes pitched into the 6th and allowed all three Flying Squirrel runs on six hits and a walk while setting down nine on strikes. Pearson McMahan stranded a runner while getting the last two outs for Reyes in the 6th and a scoreless 7th to pick up the win. Gabe Klobosits retired the side in order in the 8th for the hold while Frankie Bartow did the same in the 9th for the save. Osvaldo Duarte, Cole Freeman, and Nick Banks each singled twice while Jakson Reetz singled and doubled to pace the Sens’ offense.

Yasel Antuna snapped an 0-for-30 streak with a two-run, walkoff HR to give the Blue Rocks a 9-8 triumph in 10 innings – Wilmington’s fifth straight win. The big fly turned an “L” into a “W” for Alex Troop, who let in the free runner in the top of the 10th on a two-out single after striking out the first two batters. Evan Lee got the start but lasted just two innings as the BlueClaws got to him for two runs on four hits and two walks. Jersey Shore filleted Andrew Karp for three more to build a 5-1 lead before the Blue Rocks took a 6-5 lead on Israel Pineda’s solo HR in the 4th and his grand slam in the 5th. Armond “Don’t Call Me Willie” Upshaw led Wilmington’s ten-hit parade with two singles and a triple.

Fredericksburg matched Delmarva on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, that was the hit column as the Shorebirds got six in the run column to just the one for the F-Nats as the Nats’ Low-A entry dropped its tenth straight to open the season. Rodney Theophile was the starter and retired just one of seven batters faced and left after throwing 36 pitches, 16 for strikes. He was charged with the first three runs on two hits and three walks and (only) one hit batsman. Amos Willingham stranded all three runners he inherited and tossed three scoreless to keep Fredericksburg close. Jake Arruda broke up the shutout bid with a leadoff HR and later singled to account for two of the F-Nats’ six hits and one of their 16 whiffs. Roster moves: OF Jeremy De La Rose, 1B Leandro Emiliani, 2B/SS Viandel Peña reassigned from XST; IF Gio Díaz and OF Zach Cornell transferred to XST.
