Ben Braymer gave up his customary HR… but not much else, as Rochester generated just enough offense to take the series finale from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 3-1. The “W” was the first for the 27-y.o. southpaw, as he went six innings and gave up the one run on the home run and five hits total. He walked two and struck out three. Andres Machado and TJ McFarland combined to get through the 7th and 8th to earn holds—the second for both—while Justin Miller worked around a hit in the 9th for his first save of 2021. Luis García singled twice while Alec Keller doubled and walked twice to lead the Red Wings offense. All three Rochester runs scored without the ball leaving the infield, as Brandon Snyder grounded out twice to score two runs (only one RBI because one was a GIDP) and Alec Keller was balked in for the go-ahead run in the 4th. K.J. Harrison drove in all four runs in a 5-4 Sens loss to the Curve in 11 innings. Carson Teel started and went the first five, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits (one HR). He walked none and struck out five. Ryan Tapani (2IP), Jhonatan German (1IP), and Gabe Klobosits combined for five scoreless innings and eight strikeouts, but Pearson McMahan ended the streak and took the loss as he was dinged for two runs in the 11th. Harrison homered in the 7th to tie it at 3-3 and drove in the final run in the 11th, though the Harrisburg went down in order. Jakson Reetz singled twice while Nick Banks walked twice as the Sens managed just four hits and three walks total.

Cade Cavalli walked out to the mound in the bottom of the 1st, perhaps confused by having eight runs to work with after three straight starts with no runs or one run. The onslaught didn’t stop as the Blue Rocks steamrolled the IronBirds, 15-3. Cavalli earned his first professional win with a quality start of two runs let in on three hits and two walks. He hit a batter but struck out seven. Jacob Rhinesmtih reached base five times with a walk, a double, two singles, and a homer as he drove in four. Armond Upshaw homered to lead off the game and drove in five total with a two-run double, a bases-loaded walk, and a sac fly. Cavalli’s caddy Brady Lindsly also went deep as did Yasel Antuna for the second straight game since emerging from witness protection.

The F-Nats scored a season-high eight runs, but it wasn’t enough in a 14-8 loss to the Red Sox. Bryan Peña’s first start lasted just four innings as the 21-y.o. southpaw was knocked from the box after four innings and four runs, with four hits (one HR), a walk, and three strikeouts. Tomás Alastre made his first relief appearance since 2017 after 48 starts and 167 runs allowed in Low-A in 2018 and 2019. He lasted four batters and retired as many batters as you did, giving up three hits, two walks, while throwing two wild pitches to earn the loss. Allan Berríos and Braian Fernández both drove in two as the Fredericksburg offense generated a season-high 11 hits while drawing four walks and only fanning five times.
