The Grizzlies passed the Aces for sole possession of third place with a 12-3 loss to the Redbirds. Ben Braymer bookended three scoreless innings with three in the 1st and three in the 5th, which could have been worse as James Bourque left ’em loaded while getting the last out of the 5th. Braymer gave up three singles, a double, and three homers while walking four (including the opposing pitcher) and striking out one. Jake Noll led the Fresno hit parade with three singles, followed by Yadiel Hernandez with two. José “Orange” Marmolejos hit his 27th double while Drew Ward smacked his second AAA homer.

Mario was super, Austen was not. The 24-y.o. Venezuelan struck out a career-best of 10 over six innings but it was wasted as the 26-y.o. Texan coughed up one in the 7th and three in the 8th to give Trenton a 5-2 win. Sanchez gave up an unearned run on three hits and no walks while Williams was, um, thunderstruck for four runs on four hits and a walk over an inning and 2/3rds for the blown-save-loss. Nick Banks drew the only Sens walk and collected two singles, as did T.J. Rivera to lead the Harrisburg offense.

The Hillcats had its way with the P-Nats pitchers for 23 hits in a 14-4 demolition. Malvin Peña gave up 10 of them, including HR nos. 17 and 18, over four innings while issuing a walk and striking out three for his eighth loss. Neither Luis Reyes (7H, 2IP) nor Angel Guillen (3IP, 6H) were any better nor was the defense as Potomac committed three errors that were charged and got the benefit of the Birdbox scorekeeper on a couple more. K.J. Harrison went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored while Aldrem Corredor his Carolina League-leading 29th double and drove his 75th run, second to Mario Feliciano’s 78 RBI.

Hagerstown was held to just four hits and struck out 13 times as Lexington won, 3-1 to stop the Suns’ three-game win streak. Jackson Stoeckinger spun six innings of one-run ball on a homer, double, and single while walking none and fanning six. The Legends broke through for two against Chandler Day to hand him his fourth loss. Nic Perkins doubled in Israel Pineda with two out in the 2nd for the lone Hagerstown run. Pineda, Jackson Cluff, and Jacob Rhinesmith accounted for the other three Suns hits.

The Doubledays scored twice in the top of the 11th and then gave away the game in the bottom of the 11th with three runs and two errors for a 6-5 loss to complete the Scrappers’ three-game sweep. Auburn once led 3-0 after three innings, buoyed by five shutout innings from starter Todd Peterson. Mahoning Valley crawled back into it with a run in the 7th and two in the 8th to tie. Bobby Milacki pitched a scoreless 9th and 10th but committed the first error on a botched sacrifice bunt. After an intentional walk, Auburn got the 3-2 putout at home for the first out, but the second chance for a 3-2 putout resulted in the tying and winning runs come in as 1B Adalberto Carrillo threw it away for the second error.

The D-Nats pulled 5½ games ahead of the Brewers/Indians co-op with a 2-3 week though they were eliminated (finally) from the DSL South race. Two weeks remain in the season.
