Fresno got six strong innings from J.J. Hoover and just enough offense to edge Reno, 3-2. Hoover went six inning for the second time this season and gave up one run on four hits and three walks while fanning seven. Ronald Peña turned in two goose eggs for the hold while Dakota Bacus cordero’d through the 9th for his 8th save. Brandon Snyder doubled twice and drove in one to lead the Grizzlies nine-hit, three-walk offense.
Roster moves: While Michael Blazek and/or Joe Ross is rumored to be joining the big club in Atlanta, no official announcement has been made.

The Senators answered the Sea Dogs two-run rally in the 7th with one of their own but were speechless after Portland did it again in the 9th and lost, 4-2. Bryan Bonnell was the opener and tosse two scoreless before giving way to Andrew Lee, who threw five innings of two-run ball on two hits and three walks. The loss went to Kyle Barraclough who was charged with two runs on two hits and two walks over an inning and 2/3rds. The Harrisburg offense managed just five hits and needed the help of an error and a passed ball to avoid the shutout.

Potomac literally walked off in the first extra frame for a 4-3 win that put the Woodbridge nine above .500 for just the second time in the second half. Kyle Johnston gave up all three Woodpecker runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four over five and 2/3rds innings. Andrew Istler came on to get the last out of the 6th, stranding one, and went the rest of the way to pick up the win. Gage Canning doubled in two in the 2nd and scored the gamewinner in the 8th on K.J. Harrison’s bases-loaded, two-out walk. Canning, Aldrem Corredor, and Osvaldo Abreu each had two hits to pace the offense.

A 4-1 lead was too small for the Potomac ‘pen to protect as they imploded in the 7th for four runs and a 5-4 loss to split the doubleheader with Fayetteville. Kevin Tapani struck out a career high of ten in his Carolina League debut while throwing five innings of one-run ball on four hits and no walks. Jeremy McKinney loaded the bases with one out and Jhonatan unloaded them with a sac fly and an Earl Weaver special. Jack Sundberg and Osvaldo Abreu both singled twice while Telmito Agustin homered. The rest of the team went 0-for-16.

The Suns racked up 14 hits and scored nine runs for a second straight game as they filleted the Crawdads, 9-2. Joan Adon tossed five scoreless and gave up five hits and two walks as he won his team-high eighth game. Gabe Klobosits followed with two goose eggs before Alex Troop lost the shutout with single runs in the 8th and 9th innings. Phil Caulfield drove in two, scored once, singled once, and doubled twice while Kyle Marinconz went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead the Hagerstown offense.

Freshly demoted Trey Turner did little to rebut the decision with six runs allowed in an inning-plus in an 8-3 Auburn loss to West Virginia. Starter Rafael Gomez gave up an unearned run on four hits and a walk while striking out four to take the loss, his second. The Doubledays avoided the shutout with three in the bottom of the 9th. Wilmer Perez and Jack Dunn both went 2-for-4 to lead the eight-hit parade.

DSL UPDATE
Somehow, it appears that one but two D-Nats appeared in last Sunday’s DSL All-Star Game. 17-y.o. Yoander Rivero was hit by a pitch in his lone plate appearance while 17-y.o. Ronni Montero gave up a single to the only batter he faced. This week, the D-Nats broke into double digits with their 10th win in 47 games.
