Fresno scored in six of nine “ups” to take the opener from El Paso, 9-4. Kyle McGowin turned in a quality start with three runs allowed on six hits (one HR) and two walks while striking out six for his sixth AAA win. José “Orange” Marmolejos reached base five times with three walks, a single, and his ninth HR while Carter Kieboom walked, doubled, and singled twice to lead the Grizzlies’ 16-hit, five-walk offense.

Tyler Mapes’s struggles continue as the Sens’ 8th-inning rally fell short for a 6-5 loss to the Seawolves. Mapes gave up all six runs on 11 hits (one HR) and a walk while striking out two for his fourth loss, finishing the month of June with a 0-2 record with an ERA of 6.20 and a 1.77 WHIP. Ronald Peña (2IP) and Bryan Bonnell (1IP) combined for three scoreless to keep Harrisburg within striking distance. The Sens got three in the 8th and put the tying run on 2nd with one out before Erie reliever Drew Carlton came on to retired the last five batters consecutively. Tyler Goeddel doubled in the 8th for the final two runs and reached base three times total as did Adrián Sanchez with two singles and a walk.

Potomac jumped out to an early 3-0 lead but Carolina answered with single runs in the 1st and 2nd and three in the 3rd as the Mudcats outslugged the P-Nats, 7-5 to take a 2-0 series lead. Andrew Lee succumbed to the curse of the GBI after 67 pitches, five walks and five outs. Hayden Howard stranded two in the 2nd but was lit up for three in the 3rd to suffer the loss, his second. Jakson Reetz suffered no ill effects from the GBI as he homered while going 3-for-4 while Cole Freeman added two singles in three trips to the plate to power the P-Nats attack.

The Suns broke a seven-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Shorebirds. Reid Schaller fell an out short of qualifying for the win, as he let in Delmarva’s run on two hits and two walks while striking out five. Ryan Tapani celebrated his 25th birthday a day late by closing out the game with four and a 1/3rd scoreless innings for his fourth win. Isreal Pineda kept all the pitches in front of him while going 2-for-3 with the go-ahead RBI double and a run scored while Jackson Cluff drove in the first Hagerstown run with a double.

It would appear that the NYPL is trying to tell 18-y.o. Pedro Gonzalez that he’s not ready for this level in an 8-3 loss that stopped Auburn’s four-game win streak. Gonzalez was savaged for five runs on seven hits in an inning and 2/3rds, which lowered his ERA to 29.25. Colton Pogue, Jake Alu, and Anthony Peroni each had two hits as the Doubledays collected ten total but just one came in seven RISP chances.
GCL Nationals vs. GCL Cardinals – PPD
They’ll shoot to make this one up with a doubleheader on Thursday.
DSL Update
The D-Nats took four out of five this past week, but they’ll have to play at that clip for about a month to offset their 1-16 start. This week they play home games tomorrow, Thursday, and Saturday and on the road Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. All six games are intra-divisional.
