Fresno outlasted Salt Lake City, 13-12 in a game that featured 32 hits, 29 strikeouts, and six errors over four hours and five minutes. J.J. Hoover came off the I.L. to make the start and was pounded for six runs on five hits and a walk over four innings. Bryan Bonnell was credited with the win with three innings thrown and two runs let in on five hits, both on the longball. James Bourque was summoned with the bases loaded and nobody out and gave up a bases-clearing double before striking out three of the next four batters (he hit the one he didn’t whiff). Carter Kieboom led the Grizzlies hit column with four hits, followed by José “Orange” Marmolejos, who was a double shy of the cycle and drove in four.

The BaySox got three in the 5th and it would be all they need to send the Sens to their fourth straight loss. Jackson Tetreault gave up those three runs (all unearned) on five hits and two walks while striking out five, but lost for the third time. Adrián Sanchez broke up the shutout with a two-run double in the 8th, the fourth and final hit for Harrisburg.

Potomac couldn’t take advantage of numerous chances through eight innings before Jhonatan German imploded in the 9th to turn a 5-4 deficit into a 9-4 win for Carolina. Tim Cate made his first start at A+ but turned in a D- outing as he was strafed for five runs on seven hits and two walks over four innings. The P-Nats were just 3-for-17 with RISP and left on 10 baserunners. Telmito Agustin, Aldrem Corredor, Cole Freeman, and Gage Canning each had two hits, accounting for eight of the team’s 11 hits and all four extra-base hits.

Rome got to Hagerstown for crooked numbers in the 1st and 4th innings and held on for 5-3 win. Francys Peguero lost for the 6th time as he failed to go five innings for the first time this season. He gave up four runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four over four and 2/3rds innings. Cody Wilson reached base three times with two singles and a walk as the Suns were limited to six hits, with just one coming in eight RISP opportunities.

Mahoning Valley dismantled Auburn for six runs in the 1st and two in the 2nd as they cruised to an 8-4 win. 18-y.o. Pedro Gonzalez took the brunt of the beating as he walked four and gave up three hits for six runs in just 2/3rds of an innings to lose for the second time in as many starts. The Doubledays squeezed four runs out of five hits and five walks but struck out 13 times. Jake Alu and Ricardo Mendez were the only two batters to reach base twice, both with a single and a walk.
DSL UPDATE
As noted in the comments, the D-Nats almost won a game this week, but instead lost to the DSL Orioles2, 7-6 with two runs in the top of the 9th. They’re now 1-16, 10 games off the pace in the DSL South and five games out of 8th place.
GCL UPDATE
The GCL finally starts up this week with road games on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday and home games on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. With a competitive team in AAA for the first time since 2015, coverage this year will be limited to mostly highlights and transactions.
