Neither team broke into double digits for the first time since June 18 (H/T Fresno PR) and it was the Grizzlies on the higher end of a 7-6 tally, breaking a four-game losing streak. Like the previous night, Joe Ross did little to dissuade the notion that he’d been sent down without cause as the Aviators strafed him for 10 hits and four runs over five innings. After Henderson Alvarez3 let in a run while putting on the first four batters he faced in the top of the 7th, Derek Self got the blown save despite not letting the ball out of the infield as the tying run came in on a 4-3 groundout. José “Orange” Marolejos made Self a winner when he pealed his 8th HR for the go-ahead score in the bottom of the 7th. Self pitched a 1-2-3 eighth with two whiffs and gave way to Dakota Bacus who did the same in the 9th for his fourth save.

Harrisburg jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two, gave four of those runs back in the 3rd, but then got single runs in the 4th and 9th innings to take this one, 7-4 and stop a three-game slide. Wil Crowe shook off that one bad inning to go seven and win his seventh, finishing with four runs allowed (three earned) on five hits (one HR) and a walk while fanning five. Aaron Barrett closed out the game with two scoreless to earn his 15th save. The first five batters in the Sens lineup combined for 15 of 17 hits and all six doubles, with Ian Sagdal collecting four of the former and six of the latter, followed by Tres Barrera with three hits and two doubles.

Tim Cate bounced back from a rough outing, but Luis Reyes did not as the P-Nats dropped another to the Mudcats, 4-2. Cate spun five innings of two-run ball on five hits and two walks while fanning seven. Potomac took him off the hook—with a little help from two scoreless from Andrew Istler—with a run in the 8th but Reyes retired just three of six batters faced as let in two in the 8th on two hits and a walk for his fourth loss. Potomac made things interesting in the 9th as they loaded the bases with one out in the 9th but neither Cole Freeman (popup) nor Aldrem Corredor (grounder to short) could deliver a hit or a productive out to push in another run.

With Tomas Alastre on the mound, Hagerstown’s losing streak was safe as Delmarva handed him his fifth straight loss and the Suns their seventh, 5-3. Alastre walked four, gave up four runs on seven hits, threw three wild pitches, and struck out one (1) over five innings to lose his eighth decision. Chris “Chevy” Vann and Jared Brassher combined for four innings of one-run relief to keep things close, but the Suns couldn’t get the key hit as they went 2-for-10 with RISP and left on nine. Justin Connell led the Hagerstown hit column with four singles followed by Kyle Marinconz with two.

The Doubledays snapped a 1-1 tie with four in the 8th and held on for a 5-3 win, their fourth straight. Starter Niomar Gomez struck out six and gave up six hits, a walk, and a run over four and 2/3rds. Veteran southpaw Gilberto Chu got out of the 5th and put up goose eggs in the 6th and 7th and was the pitcher of record when the rally began. Andrew Pratt had multiple extra bases again and drove in a run while Jose Sanchez offset two errors with a walk, a single, and two RBI to fuel the Auburn offense.
