For four innings, the Grizzlies and Dodgers played slow-pitch softball before they switched to baseball around 6th with scored tied at 8-8. Neither team could make headway against the other’s bullpen until the 10th, when Andrew Stevenson’s one-out single plated the free runner from second. Dakota Bacus set up a double play with a Victor Robles and then sandwiched K’s around a 5-4 groundout to secure the 9-8 score and pick up his fourth win. Austin Voth got the start and was done after four innings and six runs allowed on eight hits (two HRs) and a walk while fanning three. Veterans Brandon Snyder and Yadiel Hernandez combined for five RBI on four hits, three runs, two doubles, and a home run (Snyder) to power the Fresno attack.

Highlighted by a four-run 5th, Reading took the fight to Harrisburg and dropped them by a 9-4 decision in the series opener. After back-to-back Dr. Jekyll starts, Wil Crowe’s Mr. Hyde returned with six runs let in on eight hits, including the aforementioned four runs on a grand slam – his second HR allowed on the night. He walked two and struck out five while falling to 5-5 for the year. Adrian Sanchez singled and doubled while Luis Garcia singled and collected one of the seven walks draw, which along with an error, enabled the Sens to score four times on just six hits.

Turnabout is fair play, as the Hillcats scored in each of the first two innings to build a 5-0 lead and cruised to a 5-1 win to even the series at 1-1. Kyle Johnston lost for the third straight game, and perhaps not coincidentally, returning to his habit of not changing speeds. The 22-y.o. Texan was lit up for all five runs on seven hits including a two-run HR that cleared two of the tree levels of signage in right-centerfield. Andrew Istler came out hiding and tossed two scoreless innings, giving up one hit and fanning four. Gage Canning broke up the shutout with a two-out, opposite-field double to send Bryan Mejia all the way home from first (and into the dugout for some oxygen; oh wait, this is the Pfitz – he’d have to go into the locker room to get quarters for the machine, so never mind).

Hagerstown ended its four-game losing streak with a 5-1 win against Delmarva. Jake Irvin returned from his phantom injury to pitch into the 6th with nary a run and just four baserunners (two hits, two walks) and win his fourth game. Jacob Howell kept the shutout going by retiring five of the next seven batters but Chandler Day lost it while giving up a HR in the 8th while finishing the game. “Raudy” Pineda and Jose Sanchez both went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Suns offense.
