Salt Lake 13 Fresno 1
• Ross 3IP, 3H, 0R, BB, K
• Copeland (L, 3-3) ⅔ IP, 7H, 8R, 7ER, 2BB, 0K
• Alvarez 2⅓ IP, 2H, R, ER, BB, 2K, 1-0 IR-S
• Difo 2-4, R
• Hernandez 1-3, R, BB, RBI
Scott Copeland finally made an appearance without giving up a HR. Instead, he gave up eight runs on seven hits and two walks without striking out a batter or having an inherited runner scored. He somehow got two batters out in the Bees’ 13-1 demolition of the Grizzlies. Joe Ross got the start and went three scoreless, giving up three hits, issuing a walk, and striking out one. It was perhaps moot as Fresno barely avoided being shutout with five hits (two by Wilmer Difo), three walks, and two runners reaching on an error.
Trenton 2 Harrisburg 0
• Braymer (L, 3-4) 7IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 3BB, 8K
• R. Peña 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Garcia 1-4, 2K
• Barrera 1-4, 2B
Harrisburg’s four-game win streak ended after the City Isle’s nine were shut out for the second time this week, 2-0. Ben Braymer went seven innings for the four time in six starts and gave up both Trenton runs on six hits and three walks. He fanned a season high of eight. The Sens’ best (and last) threat came in the 7th when Tres Barrera led off with a double and took third when José “Orange” Marmolejos couldn’t squeeze one through the right side for groundout. Barrera watched from 90′ away when Chuck Taylor’s flyball was a low-top to right and Ian Sagdal high-popped one to short to end the inning. Luis Garcia collected the only other hit for Harrisburg, leading off the game with a single to center.
Potomac 6 Myrtle Beach 3 (5 inn.)
• M. Peña (W, 3-3) 5IP, 2H, 3R, 3ER, 4BB, 4K, 2HR
• Dunlap 2-3, 2B, 2RBI
• Upshaw 2-3, RBI
• Agustin 1-3, R, 3B, 2RBI
The P-Nats came out of the gate with a four-run 1st and answered the Pelicans’ three-run 4th with two in the 5th to take a 6-3 lead. The rains came and after a 30-minute wait, the game was called. Malvin Peña got the Jack Morris win and his first career complete game with all three Myrtle Beach runs allowed on two homers and four walks over the minimum of five innings. Alex Dunlap drove in two with a double in the 1st and a single in the 5th while Telmito Agustin tripled in two in the 1st to lead the Potomac offense.
Rome 6 Hagerstown 1
• Alastre (L, 3-4) 4IP, 10H, 6R, 5ER, BB, K, 0HR, PO at 2B
• Guillen 3IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 3BB
• Lara 2-3, R, BB
• Connell 1-3, BB, CS(4)
• Pineda 1-4, 2PB(8,9)
After giving up one run or less in three of four starts, Tomas Alastre gave up all six runs in Hagerstown’s 6-1 loss to Rome. The 20-y.o. served up 10 hits but no homers over four innings, walking one, and striking out one. The Suns were limited to six hits and couldn’t take advantage of five walks, going 1-for-10 with RISP and leaving on nine baserunners. Gilbert Lara reached base with two singles and a walk while Justin Connell walked and was picked off second in the 1st and singled in the 3rd.
