Like the Utah Territorial Militia on the Baker-Fancher wagon train (too soon?), Salt Lake massacred Fresno in the series finale, 12-1. Paolo Espino bore the brunt of the beating, giving up the first seven runs on six hits, including two HRs, and two walks over five innings. Brandon Snyder homered in the 7th to break up the shutout and gave up a homer in the 9th while giving the bullpen the rest of the night off. The Grizzlies were held to six total, with Snyder and Andrew Stevenson both going 2-for-4.

The Sens put up five in the 2nd to take a 5-1 lead and four pitchers made it stand up for a 5-3 win over the Fightin’s in the series opener. Tyler Mapes picked up his second “W” with all three Reading runs allowed on six hits and a walk while fanning five. Jordan Mills (2IP) Taylor Guilbeau (1IP) put up three goose eggs to earn the hold while Aaron Barrett set the side down in order in the 9th for his third save. Adrián Sanchez, Luis Garcia, Ian Dagdal, and Tyler Goeddel each had two hits and scored a run in the 11-hit, two, and 14-whiff (three apiece by Drew Ward and Rhett Wiseman) offense.

Winston-Salem channeled the ghost of Earl Webb against Potomac as they connected for eight doubles against Potomac pitchers and outfielders in a 5-3 game that really wasn’t that close. Nick Raquet was taken deep—dead center, 15′ above the fence—by Luis Robert to start the game and gave up runs and long hits in each of the four innings he threw for all five Dash runs, with one runner cut down at the plate and another at third base, both courtesy of Gage Canning and Osvaldo Abreu. Frankie Bartow and Carson Teel combined for five scoreless innings of relief and nearly got Raquet off the hook for the loss as the P-Nats rallied for three in the bottom of the 9th but left the tying runs on base to end it. Roster move: LHP Carson Teel promoted from Hagerstown.

Trey Vickers racked up nine total bases and had three of the Suns’ 15 hits in a 10-5 lapping of the Intimidators. Francys Peguero tossed five scoreless innings with four hits and two walks allowed to win for the first time in 2019. He struck out seven. Jackson Stoeckinger added two more goose eggs before Leif Strom and Jhoantan German combined to give up five runs over the last two innings.
