Three P-Nats Make Carolina League Postseason All-Star Team

After giving away the Mills Cup to the Buies Creek Astros, the P-Nats got a semblance of consolation from the Carolina League with three players named to its 13-player postseason team: Wil Crowe, Ian Sagdal, and Rhett Wiseman.

Wil Crowe, who finished second in wins, was named as the League’s pitcher of the year despite not finishing in the top 10 in any other category. Potomac was 14-2 in his 16 appearances and scored averaged close to six runs per game for him. The just-turned-24-y.o. (Sunday) was 0-5 with a line of 6.10/6.10/1.78 in five starts at Harrisburg, where he’ll most likely begin 2019.

Sagdal, who split time between 3B and 1B, was named the League’s utility IF of the year. The 25-y.o. also won the League’s batting title at .318 and was second in on-base percentage at .373 and tied for second with 28 doubles. This season was his second in Woodbridge and one would think he’s earned a bump up to Harrisburg for next season.

Wiseman was the first P-Nat to hit 20 or more HRs since Kevin Keyes also hit 21 in 2012. The 24-y.o. from Boston was in the top 5 for HRs (21, 3rd), total bases (197, T4th), SLG% (.484, 3rd), walks (63, T4th), and OPS (.845, 3rd). Like Sagdal, Wiseman was in his second year with Potomac and should be in line to start his age-25 season at AA.
