If/when the big Nats want to pull the plug on Tommy Milone, Kyle McGowin just might be worth a look. The 26-y.o. journeyman has been lights-out for the Chiefs, which he pretty much has to be, because even with a 1.33 ERA and a 0.69 WHIP, he’s just 2-2 in his six starts.

Logan Darnell ran out of gas in the 9th but got the assist from Roman Mendez to complete Harrisburg’s 2-0, two-hit shutout vs. Akron. Darnell issued both of his walks in the 9th with two out, which forced Sens manager Matt LeCroy to waddle out to the mound for a pitching change. After a walk loaded the bases, Mendez got the elusive third out with a popup to short. Jake Noll drove in both Harrisburg runs in the 4th with two-out double to plate Carter Kieboom, who led off the inning with a single, and Dan Gamache, who walked with two out. Daniel Johnson got the third hit, a triple with one out in the 9th but was thrown out at home.

The veteran trio of Joan Baez, Ian Sagdal, and Bryan Mejia led the P-Nats to a 4-2 win over the Hillcats. Baez’s line nearly sums him up: a maddening six walks, but a K for every inning pitched (five), and only one run scored on four hits. But it took 96 pitches to get there, and forced the ‘pen to put in four innings, which Taylor Guilbeau delivered two goose eggs for his fifth hold and Jacob Condra-Bogan let in a run in the 9th after striking four of the final two innings. Sagdal and Baez, teammates for this season and last, both homered and combined for five hits and three RBI to lead to Potomac offense.

Despite four errors, all 11 runs give up by Hagerstown were earned as Lexington hammered them, 11-1 to tie the series at 1-1. Tim Cate got the start and was strafed for the first four runs on seven hits, including a homer, and three walks. He struck out three while losing his second Low-A start. Phil Morse was hung out to dry for the second straight appearance, retiring just one of nine batters faced before he was pulled from the game. Jake Scudder and Armond Upshaw both went 2-for-4 to pace the Suns offense.

The Doubledays put up seven in the first inning, which should have put their five-game losing streak behind them. Alas, the Auburn throwers gave up nine runs in the middle innings and the offense couldn’t bail them out in an 11-10 loss to State College. Jake Irvin went the first two innings and put on three baserunners but kept them from scoring while fanning three. Joan Adon and Aaron Fletcher combined for the blown save and the loss as they let in six runs while giving up six hits and two walks while hitting two batters over the final three innings. Jose Sanchez singled twice, scored twice, and doubled once while Kyle Marinconz and Pablo O’Connor both singled twice to lead the Auburn attack.
GCL Nationals 6 GCL Mets 5 – COMP.

The G-Nats held on to win the completion with Fray Perez tossing another two innings, giving up one run, and Trey Turner nearly giving it away in the 9th (four walks) before Chris “Chevy” Vann got the final out for his first professional save.
GCL Mets 4 GCL Nationals 2 – GAME TWO

In the regularly scheduled game, the G-Mets got two in the 9th to double up the G-Nats, 4-2, and knock them into last place in the GCL East. Ryan Williamson got the start and let in the first two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out six. Jose Jimenez took the loss with two unearned runs allowed on one hit and one walk. Eric Senior led the G-Nats hit column with a single and a pair of doubles while Leandro Emiliani led the walk column with four, including one in the 9th, and scored twice.
