That the bullpen imploded for six runs in the 8th was not a shock. That it was the ‘Ducks not the Sens ‘pen was as Harrisburg went to town in the bottom of the 8th for an 11-3 sportswriter’s win. Sterling Sharp picked up his fifth win and was pretty in pink as he scattered seven hits over five and a 1/3rd innings, charged with three runs (two earned), though two of them came in when Dakota Bacus couldn’t find the strike zone and walked three straight. Bryan Harper saved the day with grounder to Jake Noll converted into a 5C-3 DP. Carter Kieboom led the Harrisburg hit column with three singled while Raudy Read drove in five while collecting a single, double, and a walk.

Potomac dug itself out from a 4-0 hole with two-spots in the 2nd and 6th innings, but had runners thrown out at home in both the 8th and 10th innings as they fell in extras to Carolina, 5-4. Nick Raquet took the hill instead of Brigham—that’s the second time this week the announced starter didn’t start, first he didn’t pitch—and was unstrung for four runs in the 1st. He recovered to throw three scoreless but finished with eight hits allowed. He walked one and struck out four. Carlos Acevedo put up three goose eggs and Steven Fuentes two before he came undone in the 10th, balking the free runner to third, plunking the next, then giving up a sacrifice fly. Aldrem Corredor drove in three, including a two-run HR, and Tres Barrera plated the other P-Nats run to lead the six-hit, four-walk offense.

After missing an extra point early, the Legends went for two in the 6th and converted as they pounded the Suns in the series finale, 15-3. Tim Cate was the losing pitcher as he was knocked for six runs on seven hits, including two home runs. He walked one and struck out five. Phil Morse was hung out to dry for eight hits and eight runs in the 6th. He retired three of 11 batters faced on 31 pitches. Anderson Franco was one of four batters to have multiple hits but the only one to get an extra-base hit. Hagerstown went 1-for-9 with RISP and left on nine runners.
Batavia 4 Auburn 1 – GAME ONE

It was not a good night for the Morse brothers as Colin was also knocked around – four runs in the 6th for a blown-save-loss in the Doubledays’ 4-1 loss to the Muckdogs. Auburn starter Francys Peguero threw five scorelss innings and gave up four hits and a walk and left with a 1-0 lead. Morse gave up four runs on two hits and a walk and finished the game. Cole Daily was the beer man but only Jose Sanchez had multiple hits as the Doubledays went just 3-for-14 with RISP and left on 11 men.
Auburn 4 Batavia 3 – GAME TWO (8 inn.)

The nightcap was a battle of the bullpens, and Auburn was one better (less worse?) than Batavia, 4-3 in eight innings. Angel Guillen threw six shutout innings on two hits and a walk while striking out three. Tanner Driskill took over the 0-0 game and gave up a two-run HR in the top of the 7th. The Muckdogs gave those runs right back as they gave up a leadoff single to Carson Shaddy then put runners on 2nd and 3rd with an error and a wild pitch. Jose Sanchez drove those runners in with a single. Gilberto Chu let in the free runner in the top of the 8th to put Auburn in a 3-2 hole and once again Batavia was sloppy as an error to the first batter of the inning set up Jamori Blash for the game-tying RBI single, then back-to-back bases-on-balls made it a 4-3 walk-off win.

The G-Nats were shut out on one hit, 2-0, by the G-Marlins. Anthony Peroni got the hit, a double, in the 5th and was one of two batter to not strike out. Neither team issued a walk. Luis Reyes made the rehab start of two innings with one hit allowed and two whiffs. The loss went to Ryan Williamson, who gave up a two-run HR in the 5th, and five hits total over four innings. He set down six on strikes. Roster move: RHP Luis Reyes assigned from Harrisburg for MiLB rehab.
