Ronald Pena issued a leadoff HR in the top of the 10th to give Hartford a 3-1 lead and Harrisburg could only get one back in the bottom of the 10th on a Raudy Read RBI double to lose, 3-2. Tyler Mapes bounced back from his last outing to pitch into the 6th and give up an unearned run on five hits and a walk while striking out three. He was on the hook for the loss until Jake Noll doubled in Dan Gamache to tie things at 1-1 after six full. After Bryan Harper got the last out of the 6th, James Bourque and Austen Williams built a bridge to extras with three scoreless innings of relief. Hunter Jones was stranded at 3rd after a one-out triple in the 7th and Taylor Gushue’s one-out pinch-hit single went to waste when Jones couldn’t lay one down to give Alec Keller a chance to drive in Gushue to win it in the 9th.

Hagerstown built leads of 5-0 and 7-3 before Kannapolis went to town on the bullpen for seven unanswered runs and a 10-7 win in the series opener. Malvin Pena got the start and went to the showers after just four innings as the Intimidators got to him for three runs on eight hits. He walked none and fanned three. The loss went Jared Johnson who was run into the wall for six runs on four hits and three walks over an inning and 2/3rds. Gage Canning and Jake Scudder both doubled twice while Nick Choruby singled twice; the trio combined for three runs and five RBI to lead the Suns offense.

The Doubledays were doubled up by the Ironbirds in both hits (14-7) and runs, 8-4. Tim Cate pitched into the 4th for the first time but was dinged for two runs on five hits over three and a a 1/3rd innings. He walked none and struck out two. Jacob Rhinesmith singled twice and scored once, as did Carson Shaddy who doubled in three trips to the plate to lead the Auburn offense.
GCL Nationals – OFF DAY
The G-Nats got a much-needed day off after losing five games last week. They’ll host the Mets today, the Marlins on Wednesday, the Cardinals on Saturday with a visit to Jupiter on Tuesday and an off day on Thursday. Tuesday is an away game at their home park in West Palm Beach against the Astros.
DSL UPDATE
Like the G-Nats, the D-Nats have lost five straight – including a pair of shutout losses on Wednesday – to sink into 4th place in the DSL South, six games off the pace. This is week it’s home-and-home series against divisional foes Yankees, Rockies, and Twins.
