OFF DAY

Syracuse 5 Pawtucket 3
• Read 0-4, 0E, 0PB (he was the DH)
• Marmolejos 1-4, 2B

Harrisburg 12 Akron 2
• Mapes (W, 1-0) 6IP, 4H, R, ER, BB, 6K

Harrisburg dropped a four-spot in the 7th to break open a 4-1 game and piled in the 8th and 9th innings en route to a 12-2 win over Akron. Tyler Mapes tossed six innings of one-run ball in his first AA start in nearly two year, allowing four hits and one walk while fanning six. Adam Walker was the beer man in the 16-hit onslaught, led by Dam Gamache and Carter Kieboom with three hits apiece while Taylor Gushue drove in four and Gamache plated three.

Potomac vs. Wilmington – PPD
A thunderstorm about half hour before first pitch drenched the field and rendered it unplayable last night. They’ll shoot to make it up this afternoon with a doubleheader.

Greensboro 5 Hagerstown 4 – GAME ONE
• Romero 4IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 4K
• Held (L, 2-3) 3IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, BB, K, HR
• Flores 2-3, R, 2B, 3B, 2RBI
• Scudder 1-1, R, BB

Seth Romero was dinged for single runs in the 1st and 2nd while Sam Held was pushed an inning too far as Greensboro struck for three in the 7th for a 5-4 win. Romero walked two and struck out four over four innings, in which he labored to throw 76 pitches (46 for strikes). Held finished the game and gave up four hits, including a three-run HR, and issued one walk and fanned one. Alejandro Flores doubled, tripled, and drove in two to lead the Hagerstown offense.

Greensboro vs. Hagerstown – CNCLD
The rains came in between games (hey, that rhymes!) and with both teams playing elsewhere tomorrow, the decision to cancel the second half of the doubleheader was made. This was the final scheduled game between Greensboro and Hagerstown this season.

Mahoning Valley vs. Auburn – PPD
Rain washed away the series finale between the Doubledays and Scrappers. They’ll make it up with a doubleheader on Wednesday, August 15th. Roster moves: RHP Tanner Driskill, LHP Aaron Fletcher reassigned from GCL..

GCL Marlins 3 GCL Nationals 0 (5 inn.)
• Hill 3IP, 7H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 3K, WP, HBP
• Karp 1⅔ IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 3K
• Senior 1-3
• Peroni 0-1, BB

Rain shortened this bad boy to five innings, giving the G-Marlins a 3-0, one-hit shutout of the G-Nats. Brigham Hill started and threw three innings with three runs allowed on seven hits and three walks while striking out three. He lost for the second time. Anthony Peroni ended the bid for prefect game with a walk with a one-out walk in the 2nd. The next batter, Eric Senior, broke up the no-hitter with a single. They were the only two baserunners for the G-Nats. Roster moves: LHP Chris Vann (25th Rd. pick, Mercer Univ.), RHP Colin Morse (26th, Shenandoah.), and IF Marin Cronz (NDFA?) assigned from Washington.

DSL UPDATE
Despite a 3-3 week, the D-Nats are just a game off the pace in the DSL South at 12-7. Six starting pitchers have now made three starts. 18-y.o. Carlos Romero leads in wins (2), 17-y.o. Pedro Gonzalez in innings pitched (16) and whiffs (24) while 18-y.o. Miguel Pozo has walked 11 in 15IP. The position players are dividing time such that no player has played in every game and all have played in 7 or more games. Two players have a 1.000+ OPS – 19-y.o. OF Braian Fernandez, 1.080 in 13G and 17-y.o. Geraldi Diaz, 1.201 in 10G, though he did not play this past week. Your outlier thus far: 17-y.o. 2B Daniel Hernandez with 12E’s, 13BB’s, and a line of .196/.373/.255 across 15 games.
