Syracuse dug out from an early 6-0 hole to tie it at 7-7 after eight innings, but couldn’t complete the comeback and fell in extras, 9-7. Logan Darnell returned to AAA for the first time in two years and was stung for three runs in each of the first two innings and left after five frames with nine hits, three walks, and three whiffs. Carlos Torres took the loss with two runs given up over two innings on one hit and one walk. He struck out three. Irving Falu, Yadiel Hernandez, and Chris Dominguez each had two singles as the Chiefs failed to take advantage of the six walks issue and were a woeful 3-for-17 with RISP and left on 12 baserunners. Roster moves: RHP Brady Dragmire placed on 3-Day TIL; RHP Logan Darnell reassigned from Harrisburg.

The Senator offense went on recess in a 5-1 loss to the Flying Squirrels to end a six-game win streak. Jaron long pitched into the 7th and let in the first three runs on three hits, including a homer, and two walks while fanning three. Adam Walker’s solo HR broke up Richmond’s shutout bid as Harrisburg mustered just five hits and four walks. After back-to-back shutouts, Buies Creek nearly returned the favor as they built a 4-0 lead after 7½ innings and held on for a 4-2 win over Potomac. Matthew Crownover notched a quality start with three runs allowed on five hits and three walks over six innings against the Carolina League’s seventh-best offense, but lost for the fifth time in 13 starts. Rhett Wiseman singled and drew two of the six walks issued by the Astros. He scored the lone run on Carter Kieboom’s RBI single in the 8th, the second and final hit of the night.

The Suns scorched the Fireflies for 12 runs through four innings and ran out the clock for a 12-6 win. Matt DeRosier won for the third time with one run allowed on a home run and three hits total over six innings. He walked one and struck out three. The 12-1 lead was too big for the Hagerstown ‘pen to blow, but they gave it a go with A.J. Bogucki coughing up four over two innings and Phil Morse letting in an unearned run on his own error in the 9th. Every Suns batter had at least one hit in the 16-hit parade, led by Nick Banks and Omar Meregildo, who both went 3-for-5 with single, double, and home run.

A five-run 5th broke open a 3-2 game as Batavia evened up the series with an 11-6 win. Yonathan Ramirez’s 19th NYPL start since 2016 was another disappointment as he was charged with seven runs on five hits and three walks over four-plus innings. He hit two batters and struck out one. Telmito Agustin homered while Matt Reynolds singled twice and walked once. Among the non-rehabs, 18-y.o. Israel Pineda drove in two while going 2-for-4.
GCL Update
Opening Day is tomorrow with the G-Nats hosting the G-Marlins. Watch online for the roster here which may or may not be updated prior to the noontime start. You don’t have to ask – coverage for the Chiefs will be reduced like last summer to accommodate the team with a wee bit more prospects.
DSL Update
The D-Nats cooled off some in Week 2, going 3-3 to fall to 9-4 and one game off the pace in the DSL South. 17-y.o. Panamanian Pedro Gonzalez leads the starting pitchers with a 1-0 record in 10IP, with five hits and two walks allowed and 15 strikeouts. This is his second season in the DSL. Another 17-y.o., Geraldi Diaz, is leading the hitters with a .394/.535/.667 line with 1HR and 10 RBI. Both players will turn 18 next month.
