The Chiefs held batting practice for the RailRiders but disguised it as a game for a 14-2 loss, their seventh in a row. Brady Dragmire and Cesar Vargas both gave up 10 hits, with Dragmire going the first five innings and giving up eight runs, three HRs, and three walks, and Vargas giving the ‘pen the night off with four innings thrown and six runs let in. He walked one and gave up two homers. Moises Sierra denied Scranton/Wilkes-Barre the shutout with a two-run HR with one out in the 9th, the fifth and final hit for Syracuse. Tuffy Gosewich drew the lone walk and was the only batter to reach base twice.

Three Harrisburg pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout to run the Sens’ win streak to six. Luis Reyes came off the DL (and may have actually been hurt, too) win his fifth game with six innings pitched, the aforementioned four hits and four walks allowed, and three strikeouts. He also connected for his first career homer at the plate and drew a walk. Dan Gamache continued his bid for player of the week with his fifth straight multihit game while Drew Ward notched his third straight with two singles and a walk to lead the Senators offense. Roster moves: C Raudy Read assigned from Washington for MLB rehab; RHP Luis Reyes activated from the 7-Day DL.

Tyler Mapes hit the trifecta with his first complete game and first shutout since 2016, and a career-high nine K’s in Potomac’s 4-0 win over Buies Creek. Mapes walked none and allowed just five hits as he won for the sixth time this season. He threw 105 pitches, 76 for strikes. Jack Sundberg singled twice and walked once while Jake Noll hit his eighth HR to lead the P-Nats attack. Veteran relievers Jordan Mills and Ronald Pena were added to the C.L. North All-Star Team, bringing Potomac’s contingent to eight for the midseason showcase.

Armond Upshaw’s safety squeeze pushed in Jeyner Baez in the bottom of the 10th for a 3-2 Hagerstown win over Columbia. Jackson Tetreault made his first start in eight days and came back strong with seven innings of two-run ball on six hits and a walk while fanning seven. Steven Fuentes picked up the win with three scoreless innings pitched. Luis Garcia, Aldrem Corredor, and Jake Scudder each went 2-for-4 to account for six of the seven Hagerstown hits. Roster moves: RHP Jackson Tetreault activated from the 7-Day DL.

The Doubledays came up with big innings twice—three in the 2nd, two in the 6th—as they took the Opening Day game, 5-1. Malvin Pena got the start and the win as he went the first five innings and gave up the lone Batavia runs on four hits with nary a walk and five down by way of the K. Aaron Barrett pitched his first game since August 2015 but left with an injury after failing to retire two batters in the 7th. David Smith stranded both and tossed two scoreless to earn a hold and “save” a hold for Barrett. Adalberto Carillo and Jamori Blash both went 2-for-4 with a double as four Auburn batters had multiple hits in the team’s 11-hit parade. Roster moves: SS Matt Reynolds assigned from Syracuse for MiLB rehab; C Nic Perkins reassigned from Hagerstown; OF Telmito Agustin reassigned from Potomac; RHP Aaron Barrett reassigned from Syracuse.
