The Stripers got to Erick Fedde for two in the 1st but had no answer for the Chiefs’ three-run 3rd for a 3-2 Syracuse win over Gwinnett in the series opener. Fedde scattered eight hits and walked none as he was lifted with one out in the 6th after 80 pitches. Josh Edgin, Chris Smith, and Jimmy Cordero ran the string of goose eggs on the bottom of the scoreboard to eight straight to earn holds for Edgin and Smith and a save for Cordero. Jaff Decker reached base four times with a single and three walks while Bengie Gonzalez singled twice to lead the Syracuse offense. Roster moves: None yet.

Harrisburg rallied from five-run deficit after two innings for an 8-7 victory. Logan Darnell was lifted after hitting the pitch limit for a single inning and gave up all seven Flying Squirrel runs on 10 hits (and no HR). Led by Austen Williams (4⅓ IP), the Sens ‘pen shut out Richmond the rest of the way. The “W” went to Jeff Ames, who pitched the 7th and 8th, while Bryan Harper set the side down in order in the 9th for his third save. Austin Davidson singled once and doubled twice while driving in four while Daniel Murphy’s solo HR in the 8th was the killshot to cap off the comeback.

The P-Nats continue to give Wil Crowe plenty of runs to work with (66 in 11 appearances) as they tripled up Lynchburg, 9-3. Crowe won for the 8th time but needed 96 pitches to get 15 outs and he was charged with two runs on four hits and three walks. Ronald Pena followed with two scoreless innings and Jordan Mills gave up a run in the 9th to close out the games. The veteran trio of Alec Keller, Rhett Wiseman, and David Masters combined for six hits, four runs scored, and three RBI – two on Wiseman’s 11th HR, which is second-most in the Carolina League. Hagerstown took the first half of the doubleheader with two in 8th for a 4-2 win vs. Delmarva in “extras.” Kyle Johnston went the first five and gave up both Shorebird runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three. Phil Morse finished the game with three scoreless innings and one hit allowed. He walked none and struck out two in his first win of the season. Aldrem Corredor led the Suns hit column with two singles and a double, followed by Luis Garcia and Jeyner Baez with two singles each.

It was all Delmarva in the nightcap as the Shorebirds scored in every inning but one for an 11-4 win over the Suns to split the twinbill. Jackson Stoeckinger was lit up for seven runs on seven hits, including two HRs (one to almost-25-y.o. Ryan Ripken), to lose for the fifth time. He walked three and struck out six but went just three and a 1/3rd innings. Aldrem Corredor’s bases-clearing triple in the 5th was his fifth hit of the night and the seventh of the second game as the Suns went in order in the 6th and 7th innings.
