Syracuse got a field goal in the 8th to snap a 3-3 tie, then a touchdown in the 9th as they demolished Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 14-4 to take the series, 3-1. Erick Fedde was knocked for three RailRiders runs in the bottom of the 1st but got back on track with four scoreless to earn his second AAA win. Led by Phillips Valdez, a quartet of Chiefs relievers combined for three scoreless innings before Chad Jimmy Cordero gave up the final run on a wild pitch after back-to-back singles with one out before shutting the door on whiff and flyout. Yadiel Hernandez homered twice and drove in five as the Chiefs set season highs again in hits (19) and runs (14). Roster moves: SS Matt Reynolds placed on the 7-Day DL; OF Chris Dominguez activated from the 7-Day DL.

The Curve got to Luis Reyes and Senators for three in the 6th to break a 1-1 tie and held on for a 4-2 win and a series split. Reyes gave up all four Altoona runs on eight hits, including a two-run HR. He walked none and struck out three in his fifth loss. Matt Grace worked around two hits in the 7th for his first rehab outing while Austen Williams tossed two scoreless to give the offense a chance to come back. Austin Davidson got one back with a solo HR in the 6th but the Senators managed just six hits total and four walks total as only Dan Gamache (two singles) and Drew Ward (two walks) reached base twice. Roster move: LHP Matt Grace assigned from Washington for MLB Rehab.

Officially, Potomac was charged with just one error, but there were plenty of mistakes made in Winston-Salem’s 10-1 dismantling in the series finale. Joan Baez was perfect through the first three innings, but not so much in the next three as he was charged with three runs on five hits, including a homer (#6 in 9GS). He walked none for the second time this season (fourth time in his career) and struck out a season-best eight. Hayden Howard threw BP over the final three as the Dash dinged him for six hits and seven runs. Potomac was only two behind in the hit column with nine, led by Tres Barrera and Jack Sundberg (both 2-for-4), but ran into easy outs at home to end the 4th and third to end the 7th.

The bases were loaded with nobody out in the top of the 4th and the Suns leading 5-2 when play resumed. After the first three outs, the Grasshoppers were ahead 6-5 and eclipsed the Suns over six innings for an 8-5 win. Carlos Acevedo let in all three inherited runners, then one of his own over five innings as he took the loss, his third. Hagerstown collected 12 hits total but just five after play resumed.

In the regularly scheduled game, Greensboro jumped on Matt DeRosier one in the 1st and three in the 3rd as they cruised to a doubleheader sweep with a 6-1 victory. DeRosier gave up six hits total over six innings and walked two while setting down six on strikes for his second loss. Nick Banks led the Suns’ hit column with two singles. The two losses lowered Hagerstown’s tragic number to six games with a little less than three weeks to go in the first half.
