The Chiefs fell below .500 for the first time in six weeks with a 5-0 loss to the IronPigs. Edwin Jackson turned in a pedestrian seven innings of four-run ball on eight hits and two walks while fanning three but lost for the second time. Passed-over callup candidates* Jose “The Orange” Marmolejos and Yadiel Hernandez combined for four of the seven Syracuse hits, as the lineup went 1-for-10 with RISP and left on nine baserunners. Roster move: UT Adrian Sanchez recalled to Washington (26th man for DH).
* Also have to wonder if the Nats might be telegraphing that neither Eaton nor Robles will be ready anytime soon.

A six-run 5th turned a 4-2 lead into an 8-4 deficit as Harrisburg dropped the opener 8-6. Logan Darnell ran out of gas in the 5th and left with the bases loaded and one out. Jeff Ames brought the gas and poured it on the fire as he let in all three runs while getting torched for two homers (neither a grand slam) to make Darnell the losing pitcher. Daniel Johnson led the Sens hit column with three singles while Kelvin Gutierrez and Juan Soto, who was playing LF, were next as they both went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In the nightcap, the Sens split the doubleheader as they clipped the Flying Squirrels, 2-1. Brady Dragmire went six innings and allowed the lone Richmond run on five hits and a walk while striking out four. Ismael Guillon gave up a leadoff double then got the first two outs in the 7th before Derek Self came on to face the right-handed hitting Aramis Garcia and struck him out for the Tony LaRussa save. Taylor Gushue tripled in Kelvin Gutierrez for the first Harrisburg run and scored the second on a Khayyan Norfork RBI single. Roster move: RHP Jefry Rodriguez recalled to Washington.

A six-run third was more than enough to put away Potomac as Lynchburg missed two extra points took this one handily, 12-0. Matthew Crownover was strafed for nine hits and the aforementioned six runs on nine hits over four innings to lose for the fourth time. Neither Jorge Pantoja nor Jeremy McKinney were much better as both gave up three runs over two innings. Jakson Reetz singled twice while Carter Kieboom walked twice as the rest of the P-Nats lineup went 2-for-24 with a walk.

The Suns struck for three runs twice, erasing a 2-1 deficit in the 4th and padding a 4-2 lead in the 8th for a 7-2 win in the series opener. Nick Raquet won for the third time with a quality start of six innings pitched, two runs allowed on four hits and a walk, and six strikeouts. Kyle Johnston threw three scoreless innings for his second save. Anderson Franco went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI while Branden Boggetto doubled and homered to drive in three and lead the Hagerstown offense.
