The Chiefs won the game, 2-1, but the Nats may have lost Victor Robles to injury for an extended period of time. While X-Rays reportedly came back negative, even F.P. Santangelo can tell you that more sophisticated imaging will need to be done. Those results will likely be released today or tomorrow, along with President Trump’s tax returns and the whereabouts of Jimmy Hoffa.
The deciding run came on a three-base error and a sac fly in the top of the 9th, making a winner out of Jimmy Cordero for his two scoreless innings in the 7th and 8th innings. Carlos Torres worked around a walk in the bottom of the 9th to earn the save. Syracuse managed just five hits and one walk total. Edwin Jackson started but only pitched four innings as he allowed the lone Red Wings run on two hits and six walks.

With temperatures in the low 30s at game time last night, officials opted not to issue parkas. Instead, they’ll try again tonight with a forecast of a balmy 43 degrees. Last night’s game will be made up as part of doubleheader on June 26.

Potomac put up three runs in the 1st, 3rd, and 8th innings as they took the series opener from Down East, 9-4. Wil Crowe pitched a career-high five innings, but was charged with all four Wood Ducks runs on five hits, including a HR. He walked one and struck out eight. James Bourque followed with two scoreless innings for the hold, and Jordan Mills did likewise for the save. Rhett Wiseman went 2-for-4 with two RBI as the sole P-Nat with multiple hits as Potomac took advantage of two Down East errors to score nine times on nine hits and five walks.

The Fireflies lit up Jackson Stoeckinger for all eight runs on 12 hits (just one HR) in 8-3 defeat of the Suns. Stoeckinger pitched three innings, walked none, and struck out three. Kyle Johnston (3IP) and Max Engelbrekt (2IP) combined for five scoreless innings of relief to give the offense a chance at a comeback. Luis Garcia (3-for-5) and Armond Upshaw (2-3, BB) both reached base three times while Kameron Esthay homered to pace the Hagerstown offense, which left on nine baserunners but went 2-for-6 with RISP.
