Syracuse’s offense finally awoke with a 14-hit assault on Pawtucket pitching in a 13-5 victory, its first of 2017. Austin Voth started but couldn’t make it through four, as he needed 77 pitches to get 11 outs and let in two runs on six hits and two walks. The decision went to Austin Adams with two and 2/3rds innings of scoreless relief, through he did walk three and fanned five. Caleb Ramsey, who replaced Brian Goodwin in the 2nd inning without an apparent injury, led the charge with two singles, a double, and an RBI while Pedro Severino, Irving Falu, and Brandon Snyder all homered and brought in a teammate or two (Synder) along with them. Roster moves: CF Michael Taylor recalled to Washington; RHP Joe Nathan assigned from Washington.

Greg Ross tossed six scoreless for the Senators while the offense scored enough to cover for the bullpen in a 7-5 win for Harrisburg. Ross allowed three hits and no walks and fanned five on just 63 pitches. With a 6-0 lead, Jake Johansen set ’em down in order in 7th and failed to retire a batter in the 8th. Ryan Brinley came on with the bases loaded and one run in and let ’em all in and one of his own in a five-run 8th by the Yard Goats. He was credited for the save by finishing the game and not giving up the tying run. Andrew Stevenson reached base three times with two singles and a walk while Ross, Drew Ward, Yadiel Hernandez, and Neftali Soto each had an RBI double.

Potomac hung a five-spot on Frederick in the 1st and cruised to a 13-4 win on 17 hits, including four doubles, a triple, and a grand slam. It was needed because Joan Baez found the plate the way Sean Spicer tells the truth, issuing four walks, hitting two batters, and throwing six wild pitches. He almost got the Jack Morris win as he stumbled through four and 1/3rd innings with four runs and five hits allowed. Ronald Pena got the “W” after letting in one inherited runner and finishing the 5th. He put up goose eggs in the 67th and 7th as did Mariano Rivera for the 8th and 9th. Every batter had at least one hit, with Victor Robles and Ian Sagdal collecting five total bases and reaching base three times, a feat matched by Rhett Wiseman (a HR shy of the cycle) and Telmito Agustin.

The Suns rallied for three in the 7th to cap a comeback from an early 4-0 deficit as they cracked the BlueClaws, 5-4 in the series opener. Carlos Pena wobbled through four innings, letting all four Lakewood runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out three. Carter Kieboom’s two-run double and Sheldon Neuse’s one-run single delivered the goods. The win went to Hayden Howard, who struck out five over three innings, while Jorge Pantoja sloed out the game with two scoreless for the save.
