Three Syracuse pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout to outduel their counterparts for Gwinnett, 1-0. Autin Voth went the first seven innings and gave up three hits, no walks, and struck out six. Trevor Gott set them down in order in the 8th on 14 pitches for hold #6 while Rafael Martin worked around a one-out single for his ninth save. Trea Turner’s RBI triple plated pinch-hitter Scott Sizemore who walked in place of Voth. The Chiefs were held to just five hits but drew four walks.

Spencer Kieboom’s two-out RBI double in the 7th quacked up both the no-hitter and the shutout for the RubberDucks as the Senators lost, 6-1. Harrisburg starter Jaron Long was flapped for four runs on eight hits, including two homers, over five and 2/3rds innings. He walked none and struck out two in his second loss. Zach Collier was the only Senator batter to reach base twice as he drew two of the four walks Akron pitchers issued.

Veteran Greg Ross combined with two relievers on a five-hit shutout while Drew Ward came off the DL with bang as Potomac took the opener from Winston-Salem, 2-0. Ross walked one and struck out four over seven innings for his second win. Robert Benincasa and Ryan Brinley were both perfect in the 8th and 9th innings to earn the hold and save respectively. Ward homered on the first pitch he saw to give the P-Nats a 1-0 lead in the 2nd. Osvaldo Abreu and “Orange” Marmolejos opened the 4th with back-to-back singles with Abreu taking third and scoring on double play ball for the second and final run of the game. The P-Nats managed just five hits total while striking out 12 times. Roster moves: 3B Drew Ward activated from the 7-Day DL; IF Grant DeBruin placed on the 7-Day DL (speciem iniuriae non fictus).

Rain washed away Friday night’s game at the Muni. They’ll try to make it up tonight with a twi-night doubleheader.
