After last year’s aberration, all is back to normal in Syracuse at the break… just one (obligatory) I.L. all-star, in last place by 4½ games, and columnists bitching about the stadium.

Cutter Dykstra’s solo HR in the bottom of the 7th was the difference as Harrisburg edged Erie, 2-1 to earn a split of the four-game series. Austin Voth turned in seven innings of one-run ball, allowing the lone SeaWolves run on four hits and a walk while striking out eight for his fourth win. It also snapped a streak of three straight no-decisions. Derrick Robinson collected two of the Sens’ five hits while Isaac Ballou drew three of the five walks issued for the game.
Winston-Salem 3 Potomac 1 — SUSP.
Matt Purke’s return to the Carolina League was marred twice — once by the Winston-Salem batters, who knocked him for three runs in the 1st, then again in the 3rd when the rains came and suspended play. A makeup date is yet to be announced but the two teams have a remaining series in Woodbridge from August 11-13. With the 13th being a getaway matinee, look for the makeup to be played on the 11th to allow for a possible rainout.

The Suns are 9-9 in the second half as they hit the road for West Virginia and Kannapolis for six games before returning home next Wednesday.

A five-run 5th dug the Doubledays out of a 7-3 hole as they took the series finale from the Yankees, 10-7. Mariano Rivera III was pounded for the second straight start, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits over three-plus innings. Luis Torres was credited with the win but Grant Borne was the most effective reliever with three scoreless innings. Andrew Stephenson and Melvin Rodriguez both had three hits as Auburn notched 13 total on the night.
