Emmanuel Burriss went Rickey Henderson for Syracuse like Quincy Latimore did for Harrisburg on Thursday night to get the Chiefs off to an early 1-0 lead over the Pawtucket Red Sox. Following former Washington National Corey Brown’s homer in the 2nd, the Chiefs scored two in the 3rd followed by an RBI triple in the top of the 4th by Will “Got Skills” Rhymes that scored Jhonatan “Red Onion” Solano. Former Chief Carlos Rivero doubled and later scored to give Pawtucket its final run. While Syracuse would score single runs in the 8th and 9th, the late-inning highlight was a dominant inning and a third from Rafael Martin, who notched his second save and struck out three of the four batters that he faced in Syracuse’s 6-2 win. Roster move: RHP Aaron Barrett optioned from Washington.

Scott McGregor avoided the “Good, Bad, Interesting” Curse by providing seven strong, no-walk innings and earning a victory in the Harrisburg’s 3-2 win over Akron last night. Two triples and a single in the top of the third put McGregor down by two runs, but he then plucked the ‘Ducks over the next four frames. Michael Taylor started the comeback in the 5th with a two-out RBI single to score Adrian Sanchez, who had singled two and stolen second ahead of him. Harrisburg’s 6th-inning rally was highlighted by Will “Not the Thrill” Roberts’ bases-loaded wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Oscar Tejeda to put the Senators up for good. Tyler Herron pitched to contact for two scoreless innings to record his fourth save.

The P-Nats continued their dominance against the Mudcats, taking their fourth straight contest between the two team, 4-2, ending a three-game skid. Ian Dickson got the start and turned in five serviceable innings with both Carolina runs let in on five hits and three walks while striking out three. Richie Mirowski followed with three perfect innings of relief for the hold while Bryan Harper pitched around a pair of baserunners in the 9th to earn his third High-A save. Pedro Severino reached base three times with a pair of singles and a walk while Shawn “Wheels” Pleffner went 2-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored, and his sixth stolen base as Potomac took advantage of five walks and three errors by the Mudcats to score four times on just seven hits.

Charleston snapped a 1-1 tie with three runs in the 5th and held on for a 4-2 win over Hagerstown. Wirkin “For The Weekend” Estevez hit the wall in the 5th, loading the bases with one out. Jake Johansen unloaded them with a misplayed tapper back to the mound that he turned into a single with a weak throw to 1st for the first run, then two more on an RBI single. He would recover to strike out the next two batters and pitch a scoreless 6th but the damage was done. Narciso Mesa went 3-for-5 with a triple and a steal to lead the Suns offense, which sputtered to a 2-for-13 mark with RISP and left on nine for the night. No need to get your panties in a bunch like home plate umpire Rich Grassa, who ejected Spencer Kieboom in the 1st after he protested a questionable check swing call for a whiff on a 3-2 pitch. Not a lip-reader, but it seems doubtful he went Crash Davis on him.

The Cyclones had just four hits and committed four errors and they still won, walking off in the 9th to hand the Doubledays a 4-3 loss and take the series, 2-1. Starter Drew Van Orden turned in another five strong innings, though he hit two batters and gave up a run on two hits and a walk while fanning five. Cutter Dykstra doubled, stole third and scored the first Auburn run while going 2-for-3 with a walk. His replacement, Bryan Mejia homered in the 9th to give the Doubledays a 3-2 lead, which David “Mi Hermano Es Wilson” gave away as he was unable to strand the runner he inherited and gave up both the tying and winning runs on two walks and a single.

The G-Mets exploded for four runs in both the 4th and 6th innings and held off a late charge in the 8th and 9th innings to hand the G-Nats an 8-5 loss. Luis Reyes suffered his third loss, giving up the first four-spot on six hits and a walk while striking out three over four innings. Randy Encarnacion singled twice and walked once while scoring once and driving in one to lead the G-Nats offense, which registered eight hits and four walks.

Joshual Ramirez led the 18-hit assault with three singles and a double, followed by Telmito Agustin’s two singles and a triple.
