Rendon’s Injury Includes Fracture

Multiple online sources are reporting that Anthony Rendon’s injury includes a partial fracture — technically, it’s known as an incomplete fracture — and he has been immobilized in a boot*, scheduled to see a specialist tomorrow. No timetable was given for his return, but most estimates for the timeframe to heal place the minimum at four weeks.
*No Canadian jokes, please.

As previously noted, this is Rendon’s left ankle; not the one fractured twice previously, a.k.a. his right. Nationals GM Mike Rizzo has been on record as stating that this is good news because a break like this “probably heals quicker than a bad sprain,” and is not considered season-ending. Much, of course, depends on the type of fracture (lateral, medial, or posterior), whether it’s the result of an inversion (turned inward) or eversion (turned outward), and the degree of ligament damage (if any) — which is why Rendon will be seeing a specialist.

Further details will be passed along as they become available.
