Syracuse Chiefs L, 5-4 @ Durham

Notes: Durham started the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the 1st, while Syracuse could only score one of their own in the 5th. Durham extended their lead in the bottom of the 5th with another run making it 3-1. But Syracuse made a charge in the 8th and took the lead as they scored three runs but unfortunately Durham answered with two more runs in the bottom of the 8th to win this one 5-4. Starter Matt Chico went seven innings giving up seven hits, three runs and two homers but got the no-decision.

Harrisburg Senators W, 7-5 @ Portland

Notes: The Sens & Portland stayed neck-and-neck in this one, when Portland scored two in the 1st, Harrisburg answered with two of their own in the next inning. Then Portland scored one in the bottom of the 2nd and Harrisburg once again tied it all up in the next inning. Harrisburg finally broke free in the 6th scoring two making it 5-3. In the 8th the Sens pulled away scoring two more, while Portland could only come back with two of their own as the Sens got the 7-5 win. Rehabbing Jason Marquis went 3⅓ innings giving up five hits, three runs, one walk and three strikeouts while reliever Chuck James got the win, pitching 2⅔ innings.

Notes: On 93-degree night with a slight breeze, neither team had any trouble generating offense with a combined 25 runs and 40 hits on the scoreboard. But Winston-Salem won again in walkoff fashion, scoring the tying and winning runs with two outs in the bottom of the 12th. Tyler Moore remained red-hot, smacking two doubles and driving in three while extending his hitting streak to nine games. Starter Brad Peacock was knocked out early, giving up six runs on nine hits in 2⅔ while Dan Leatherman took the loss with two runs allowed on three hits and a hit batsmen in ⅔ of an inning.

Hagerstown Suns L, 7-4 @ Asheville

Notes: In the 3rd the Suns scored one run to start things off, and kept things scoreless until the bottom of the 5th when Asheville scored four. Hagerstown scored one in the top of the 6th, but Asheville wouldn’t let up as they scored one in the bottom of the inning. Hagerstown scored another run in the 7th and 1 more in the 9th, unfortunately Asheville scored 2 of their own in the bottom of the 8th to win this one 7-4. Starter Paul Applebee took the loss, going 5⅔ innings while giving up eight hits (three home runs), five runs and two walks.

Vermont Lake Monsters W, 6-5 vs. Lowell

Notes: Lowell scored two in the top of the 2nd, while Vermont countered with two of their own in the bottom of the inning. In the next inning the Lake Monsters took the lead with two more runs, making it 4-2. but the Spinners wouldn’t let up as they posted a picket fence with single runs in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings, retaking the lead at 5-4. In the 7th Vermont put this one to bed as they scored two runs to win 6-5. Starter Chad Jenkins went five innings, giving up four runs on three hits and three walks while collecting six strikeouts, but the decision went to Wilson Eusebio who pitched three innings in relief and allowed one run. David Freitas set the team record by extending his hitting streak to 19 games with a first-inning single.

GCL Nationals W, 11-4 vs. GCL Astros

Notes: A six-run sixth inning turned a 3-1 deficit into a 7-3 lead for the GCL Nationals, powering the GCL Nationals to an 11-4 victory over the GCL Astros in Viera. Randolph Oduber shook off his slump of 12 hitless at-bats to collect three its and drive in three runs, pacing the 12-hit, 11-run offensive effort. Tyler Hanks was the first man out of the bullpen, and got the win with two runs (one unearned) allowed over five innings.

DSL Nationals — PPD
Notes: The DSL Nationals were rained out for the third time in four days. They next meet the DSL Yankees1 on July 31, which will also mean three doubleheaders in four days next week… unless it rains again.
