Transaction Update

March 14, 2026

Yesterday, the Nats optioned three southpaws to Rochester, all of whom are expected to start for the Red Wings:

  • LHP Andrew Alvarez
  • LHP Jake Eder
  • LHP Mitchell Parker

Perhaps the most significant—and LONG OVERDUE—is Parker, who the league had figured out by mid-2024 and had been steadily declining ever since. Clearly, the Nats would rather have this trio pitching every fifth or sixth day in case (when) one of the 30-something starters get hurt or falters.

And there were two releases earlier this week:

  • C Brady Lindsly
  • LHP Gabriel Agostini

A 4th Round pick in a year with only five (2020), Lindsly stuck around probably longer than he might have otherwise [insert obligatory note about relationship to Cade Cavalli here], given the Nats’ fetish for bat-first backstops.

Agostini showed promise in the DSL and his first season in the FCL before things went off the rails in 2023. He spent most of 2024 on the I.L. (he’s not on The List, so it’s unclear what the injury was) and short stint in the FCL last summer where his production remained the same as 2023.

What shall we interpret Green and. White showing up in an A game scrimmage versus Marlins .
Has the light switch flipped on for both of their abilities translating better into game action ?
All the best , Lindsay and Agostini
    In life choices forward .

A very pleasant surprise in the game yesterday against St Louis. Robert Cranz made an appearance, allowing only 1 of the 3 baserunners he inherited to score, limiting the damage to Mikolas’ poor outing versus his previous teammates.

Cranz was in the middle of an outstanding 2025 season, when he apparently blew out his elbow in July. At least that seemed to be the suggestion at the time, but he’s back now almost exactly 8 months later, so it wasn’t TJ.

This is pretty great news. Cranz has always been a peculiar prospect. He’s been inexplicably babied through his short career. He garnered some moderate buzz for a 7th rounder out of OK State in 2024. A couple prospect lists had Cranz in their ratings, but the Nats didn’t seem to share this. He got babied, repeating 2025 in Fredericksburg, and got stuck there for 3 months while clearly demonstrating he was both too old and too good for the level. After a week in Wilmington he went down injured, and the slowly building buzz dissipated. I’d written him off as having any significant impact in 2026, assuming that even if he returned, as a reliever, that impact would be limited to like 10 late season innings. Seeing him back now is a great surprise. Hope he can pick up where he left off in 2025.

The Spring Breakout rosters got pared down again in advance of the game today. Some interesting changes:
    PITCHERS (8)
    Alex Clemmey, LHP, No. 11
    Davian Garcia, RHP, NR
    Landon Harmon, RHP, No. 10
Sean Paul Liñan, RHP, No. 27
    Josh Randall, RHP, NR
Miguel Sime Jr., RHP, No. 16
Yoel Tejeda Jr., RHP, No. 13
    Erik Tolman, LHP, NR

    CATCHERS (2)
    Kevin Bazzell, C, NR
    Caleb Lomavita, C, No. 28

    INFIELDERS (8)
    Ronny Cruz, SS, No. 25
    Angel Feliz, SS, No. 23
    Gavin Fien, SS, No. 5
    Devin Fitz-Gerald, INF, No. 9
    Coy James, SS, No. 17
    Seaver King, SS, No. 7
    Yohandy Morales, 1B/3B, No. 29
Eli Willits, SS, No. 1/MLB No. 13

    OUTFIELDERS (4)
    Yeremy Cabrera, OF, No. 20
    Phillip Glasser, OF, NR
    Sam Petersen, OF, No. 22
    Andrew Pinckney, OF, No. 19

Weird that Harry Ford got left off AFTER the announcement of getting sent to Rochester. I noted it was weird to include him when he was still in contention for a roster spot. But now that’s definitively over, it’s weird to then remove him…

I’m also surprised to see Christian Franklin and Ethan Petry not make the cut. Is Franklin perhaps being kept around in big league camp for extra reps if brass decides to make a statement by sending Crews and his .295 OPS to Rochester??

Again no Dickerson… given a guy like Coy James, who’s never batted professionally is here and he’s not further suggests an injury.

It appears that the Phillip Glasser, outfielder, insanity continues under the new regime.

I’m not sure how much to read into the pitchers selected. A bit surprised not to see guys like Perales, Kent or Cornelio here. But maybe it’s a timing issue.
